New Young Justice, Green Lantern Episodes Abruptly Pushed to 2013

Fans looking for new episodes of Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series on Cartoon Network's DC Nation block this past Saturday were sorely disappointed when they tuned in to find nothing of the kind (instead episodes of Dragons: Riders of Berk aired in their stead).

What at first seemed like a mix-up on the network's part soon became much more bizarre when it was revealed that CN had abruptly pulled the entire DC Nation block of programming (which also includes those great little Superhero Shorts) from their schedule until January, 2013. This move comes only three weeks after Young Justice and Green Lantern had returned from an almost four-month-long hiatus. So this means only two new episodes of each show will have aired in more than six months by the time we get to the new year. Huh?

Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. have been mum on the situation, offering no explanation for the sudden move aside from this strangely cheery tweet from CN: "Hey #DCNation fans! Have you heard?? DC Nation will return in January with all new episodes!" No, we had certainly not heard that… (The DC Comics Facebook page offered a similarly brief message about a January return, and when we reached out to our sources all we got were similarly one-sentenced responses.)

Some have speculated that Cartoon Network wants to hold the new episodes for the station's 20th anniversary or perhaps for the launch of the upcoming Beware The Batman. As IGN TV's Executive Editor Eric Goldman points out, the huge success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nick has sucked viewers away from CN -- though TMNT airs at 11, which is when DC Nation ends, so are kids just suddenly watching Nick all morning? Seems unlikely.

It must be said that Cartoon Network, DC and Warner Bros. are all corporate siblings, so it doesn't make sense to think that CN would not care about or have a reason to be dismissive of Young Justice and Green Lantern. The abruptness of the movie is just very strange, and it certainly doesn't help the programs themselves -- especially Young Justice which is very arc-heavy and dense with scores of characters to follow. When the show takes these long hiatuses (which it unfortunately has done on several occasions now), it becomes that much more difficult for fans to jump back in.

Interestingly, a teaser for the remainder of Young Justice Season 2 could be spotted at the DC booth at New York Comic-Con this weekend. That video has now found its way online and can be seen right here:

But wait! For now, anyway, you can (legally) download via iTunes what should've been this week's episode of Young Justice ("Before the Dawn"). The Green Lantern: TAS episode ("Steam Lantern") is harder to find, though one of the show's producers, Giancarlo Volpe, has provided some details via his Twitter (@giancarlo_volpe) on how to locate it. Why these episodes were made available this way is unclear, unless Cartoon Network's pulling them from airing was so abrupt that they simply slipped through the cracks.

Also, a petition has shown up here that seeks to get the episodes on the air before January.

So expect IGN's reviews on those iTunes episodes soon, but beyond that… well, I guess we all know what we're doing in 2013.

The 13 Most Shameless Super Mario Rip-Offs on iPhone

He's the most iconic cartoon character on earth - a video game legend and the star of nearly three decades worth of incredible platforming games, go-karting games, freelance gynecologic work and whatever the hell he was doing in that game alleyway. Yet aside from a few trips and stumbles, Nintendo always makes sure that every entry in the Super Mario franchise has fantastic quality control.

Sadly though, Nintendo doesn't make any of these terrible Super Mario rip-offs on the iPhone. Most of these have since been altered or removed entirely from the App store since their initial slips past Apple security, but here we have preserved them as they originally appeared in all of their awful, awful glory.

Editor's Note: Every single one of the titles below are (or at least were) real, actual games that hit the iOS App Store.

3D Cartoon Land Safari

You see, the way copyright law works is that if you change only one detail of a product you've completely stolen, nobody can ever sue you. Right?

A Kaizo World

"AVOID DON'T BUY DODGE THIS GAME TO SAVING A DOLLAR"

Barrels!

Donkey Wrong.

Cloud Run

DELETE ->

Game Guy

Remember when classic retro handheld systems had the phrase "Classic Retro Handheld System" on them?

Mole Kart

Instead of a blue shell, why not throw your credit card?

Monino

How many "lifes" have been wasted playing this shameless rip-off?

Otaku Dash

Yes, that's a pile of sh*t. On top of the pile of sh*t that is this game. So basically this game has pile of sh*t inside a pile of sh*t. Sh*t.

Super Daddio

This game runs at more frames per second than Mario 64, hence it's better so therefore checkmate.

Super Jump World

At least this one manages to ditch the anti-European stereotypes inherent in the actual Mario games. Oh wait, this one is just racist against the Irish.

Super World Adventures

Why play as Mario when there's a farmer who just realized how high he was?

Tommy's World

Oh no! Watch out, Tommy!

Wait, who the f*ck is Tommy?!?

Ultra Dario

When there's no more Mega Barrio, Duper Marlo and Superb Sargento in hell, the Ultra Dario will walk the earth.

Brian Altano and Mike Drucker are hopefully much more fun and original than any of these terrible clones when they write IGN's premier comedy news show, Up At Noon. Follow them on Twitter at @agentbizzle and @MikeDrucker.

Check Out This Rip Off of Super Mario 3D Land

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so this iOS rip off of Super Mario 3D Land, '3D Cartoon Land: Safari' is basically an obsessive love letter to Nintendo's iconic plumber.

First spotted on NeoGAF, 3D Cartoon Land: Safari is available for $0.99 on the Apple App Store and is described as 'very simply yet very addicting [sic].'

The screenshots below speak for themselves.

'This unique game requires you to quickly jump over obstacles and collect coins,' the game's description continues. 'But you are not secure in this beautiful cartoon world. An angry tortoise could bite you. An easy and smooth control makes it very funny and to jump or run.'

How the game's creator could describe 3D Cartoon Land as 'unique' and still sleep at night is anyone's guess, but you've got to give him credit for his gumption. For a full description of 3D Cartoon Land: Safari's 'incredibly fun' features, check out the Apple App Store link.
