Tom Hardy to Star in Splinter Cell Movie

Tom Hardy will star in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, the Ubisoft film adaptation of the game franchise.

Hardy, who of course co-starred as Bane in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises, will play Sam Fisher, a special ops agent for the organization known as Echelon.

Who Is Sam Fisher?

Collider reported earlier today, and Variety now confirms along with this casting news, that Eric Warren Singer (The International) will write the script.

Hardy brings a certain prestige to the game-to-film genre that has often been missing in the past. This tracks with Ubisoft's other big property currently in development, Assassin's Creed, which Michael Fassbender will co-produce and star in for New Regency and Fox. Splinter Cell doesn't have a studio yet, though Ubisoft has already begun talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount.

"Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills," said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "His involvement in the Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike. Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story ... while still respecting all the codes and traditions of the franchise that are so important to fans."

Skyfall Breaks Box Office Record in UK

While his opening weekend box office trailed behind Harry Potter in the UK  - by £2m - James Bond’s latest movie defeated the boy wizard over the course of its first week.

Indeed Skyfall had the biggest seven-day haul in British box office history, taking a whopping £37.2m from 587 screens. The film is now on course to be the biggest ever Bond in the UK.

In a statement, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said “We are very grateful to the Bond fans and all UK cinema audiences for making Skyfall the biggest opening week ever during our 50th anniversary year."

Skyfall opens in the U.S. on November 9, so expect further Bond box office records to topple then.

Wilfred: "Resentment" Review

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.

Wedding bells were ringing on Wilfred this week as Drew and Jenna prepped for their big espousal. Of course, to keep things relevant, Wilfred was assigned the title of ring bearer, with Ryan as co-ringbearer -- or rather "associate" ring bearer. Meanwhile, Ryan was still down in the dumps over Amanda after the emotional revelation we were given in the last episode.

As always, it was fun seeing Drew again, just as dopey and clueless as ever. His toke-up scene with Ryan was pretty hilarious, particularly Wilfred's irritation with Drew, who kept lobbing chips in Wilfred's direction as Wilfred instinctually caught them in his mouth.

However, it was also interesting to see Drew opening up to Ryan again, especially in regards to Jenna's cheating on him. At this point, it's almost pathetic how trusting Drew is, despite his shallow and often bro-tacular conventions. I don't think I ever expected to sympathize with his character, but he and Ryan definitely share a unique friendship themselves, even if it is largely one-sided.

The wedding ring dilemma, on the other hand, was a bit more predictable and wearisome, although it had its moments. Wilfred's jealousy of Jenna was a nice counterbalance to Ryan's own mixed feelings in regards to the wedding, and the moment when Wilfred literally had the s*** scared out of him was a pretty awesome conclusion.

Of course, the absolute greatest scene was Ryan's meeting with Amanda in the final few moments of the episode. It's difficult to say with a show like this, but it feels like they might actually be straying away from the Ryan/Jenna romance after all. That doesn't necessarily mean things will pan out with Amanda, but Ryan certainly appears to be breaking down some deep-seeded emotional barriers romantically this season.

It was also a nice touch to have Drew's injury result in Ryan playing host to Jenna's wedding. Naturally, this sounds like a horrible idea, but what better platform for some inevitable and devastating hijinks?

The Walking Dead: Final Season 3 Poster

AMC have revealed the final key art/poster for The Walking Dead: Season 3. As with previous seasons, Rick Grimes is going solo on this poster. But of course the most notable new addition here is Rick's location - at a certain prison Walking Dead comic book fans have been looking forward to for quite some time.

The Walking Dead: Season 3 premieres Sunday, October 14th. Season 3 is the longest one yet with a total of sixteen episodes split into two eight-episode portions. The first eight will air this fall (presumably ending December 2nd, if there are no weeks off), followed by the second half of the season debuting in February.

PS Vita Update 1.80 is Live, Brings PSone Classic Support

PlayStation Vita’s newest firmware update -- 1.80 -- is now live. It comes in at 102 MB in size and should prove to be a quick download over wi-fi. Of course, you could always download it even quicker by connecting your Vita to your PlayStation 3.

Update 1.80 brings with it a few fixes, but it’s most notable for “turning on” the Vita’s ability to play PSone Classics. This is great news, as there are scores and scores of PSone Classics available on the PlayStation Store.

However, it seems there’s a regional discrepancy between North America and Europe in terms of which PSone Classics are available for download on the Vita. The North American PlayStation Blog only lists nine games that will be available. The European PlayStation Blog, on the other hand, lists 129 games.

The reason for this major discrepancy is unknown, though it appears it could be an error on Sony’s part. The items are clearly listed on the PlayStation Blog (see picture below), but some Twitter users are reporting that unlisted games work just fine. The games listed on the Blog are likely the only ones available for purchase directly from your Vita, but games purchased on the PlayStation 3 and transferred to Vita may work, too. We’ve reached out to Sony to clarify the situation.

Update 1.80 also gives you the ability to control menus without the touch screen, great for those of us who are constantly dirtying our OLED screens. To do so, go to Settings, then System, and finally Control with Buttons on PS Vita.

Is This the Iron Man 3 Trailer Description?

It seems as though we may have stumbled upon our first trailer description for Shane Black's Iron Man 3. Of course, keep in mind that the authenticity of the following text has yet to be confirmed. From Ain't It Cool News:

"It opens with a voice over of Tony Stark talking about how the events of New York (I'm assuming the Avenger Movie) changed him, and how he’s just not 'into it' anymore. First scene is Iron Man with battle damage, laying down amid rubble and taking [off] his faceplate to show a bleeding Stark. Scenes of him arguing with Pepper Potts in the armory (cool shots of alternative Iron Man suits including the red white and blue one we've seen already), press conferences, Tony looking solemn, Tony talking with someone who looks like a psychiatrist, and a short shot of Don Cheadle in military uniform (no War Machine in the preview).  Also one scene of who I presume is the Mandarin, forcefully landing and cracking the ground. However, it looked like a silver Iron Man. I was unable to tell in the brief view who it was (maybe due to unfinished CGI).

We then get a voice over from Ben Kingsley, talking about how there there are no heroes and how he will teach everyone, especially Stark, a lesson. This is over scenes of the alternative Suits getting blown up, Stark going into surgery, and a fleet of helicopters launching missiles which blow Stark's home up and apart (the CGI looked nearly finished) and sending Stark and Pepper into the sea below. Then a close up of Kingsley with no helmet in the Mandarin armor.

It ends with Iron man underwater swimming towards what looks like his 'heart reactor thing.' Then the logo, then Stark walking in the snow dragging a large bag, then the logo again.

All and all, a somber trailer, dark and  humorless, which seemed more in tone with The Dark Knight Rises than with any of the other Iron Man movies or the Avengers."

IGN Movies reached out to a rep over at Disney, who had no comment on the report. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on this new info, if at all accurate? Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Iron Man 3 is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2013.
