Blaze take out Dignitas in a very close set

Picks Blaze Singed, Skarner, Orianna, Vayne, Lulu Dignitas Rumble, Rengar, Diana, Ezreal, Nunu

Due to some issues connecting to the stream we joined the game some 6 minutes in, Blaze had a small lead.

Dignitas made their move to equalise the score and picked up a double kill but Rengar got caught-out afterwards and gave Blaze a kill back, keeping their lead safe. Smelling blood after their last successful team-fight, Dig immediately went for another engage. They took Dragon and four kills for only two losses, putting them ahead in gold. They seemed to be capable of shutting down Vayne and the momentum had swung slightly into their favour.

Bloodlust was too strong for Dig though. They went too aggressive and ran into the entirety of Blaze, losing two for zero and both kills went  to Vayne. Feeding a Vayne kills is always a disaster and Blaze had succeeded in stemming the blood flow, bringing them right back to even.

There was another large teamfight but sadly the stream failed so no one actually got to see it. When the streams came back, the score was 12-13 in kills and pretty much even on gold. Dignitas kept the pressure up; killing Skarner allowed them to take the second mid tower. Blaze appeared to be on the back-foot but the game was still exceptionally close at the 30 minute mark. Dignitas took the next Dragon uncontested, showing that Blaze felt they were behind and didn’t want to fight.

The shields for Blaze really started to come into their own. This caused Diana to over-dive to try and kill Lulu, who had Oracles, and died for with no gain. Meanwhile Vayne completed her GA and became so much harder to take out of team-fights. The next fight was of massive importance. Skarner flash-ulted Diana but she managed to barely get out alive and Dig turned hard on Blaze. Singed wasn’t tanky enough and died quite fast which allowed them to switch onto Skarner who fell almost immediately after. Vayne almost escaped but a beautiful Mystic Shot from Ezreal clipped her on the way out. The DOT from his red buff burned her GA and she died immediately after it brought her back. Dig followed this up with a Baron, a Dragon and extended their lead to almost 6000g.

Dig made a rather large mistake and used the Malphite ult on Nunu alone to secure a kill. Blaze, knowing that one of the most important ults for Dig was down chose this moment to engage. Rengar was barely caught out by Lulu and this led to Rumble and Ezreal going down and Blaze taking out the first inhib of the game. More kills followed and Blaze had quickly shrunk Dig’s lead, with Vayne neared her end-game hypercarry status. The next and last fight was a slaughter. and Blaze went 4-0 and took game one with a nice comeback.

Bans

Dig Maokai, Malphite, Jayce Blaze Evelyn, Sona, Ezreal

Picks:

Dig Rengar (jungle), Nunu (support), Katarina(top), Corki (AD), Orianna (mid). Blaze Jaxx (top), Lee Sin (jungle), Diana (mid), Lulu (support, Vayne (AD). .

A quiet start to game two, with no invades or aggression. An early attempt to gank Kat in toplane found Rengar instead and Blaze picked up the firstblood gold. Blaze went for the fast-push and took out the top tower before the 6 minute mark. After that they swapped their AD/support back down to botlane. This gave Vayne tower gold and a small CS lead over Corki, in addition to having just bought and thusly having an item advantage.

A failed 1v1 attempt in toplane ended with Jaxx getting the kill and extending his CS lead to over 200% of Kat’s. Before the game had reached 10 minutes, Blaze had a three kills to zero and were more than 2000g ahead. Kat did manage a really nice double kill in toplane but Vayne answered back immediately with a kill onto Nunu and took Blaze’s second tower and first Dragon of the game.

After a small break from action Blaze took an uncontested Dragon and moved to mid for another easy kill. But then they overcommitted to a dive and Corki picked up a kill, followed up with two more kills as Corki and Kat cleaned up. A bloodbath in botlane ended with Jaxx surviving by less than a hair and Blaze almost taking the Inhib tower. Dig won the next fight by almost killing Diana and taking out Lee Sin. However, Lulu destroyed  their botlane inhib tower and Jaxx 1v1’d Kat to take the toplane inhib. They followed up by taking Baron but Jaxx went too deep and gave Dig a kill. This started a chase across the map that ended with Dig getting three kills for free, on Baron buffed champions. They couldn’t press into Blaze’s base safely, so they backed off to buy and heal up. Dig were doing ok in teamfights, still trading even, but the super minions started pressing into their base and they had to pull back to clean them out or start losing Nexus towers. A nice call from Dig ended with them picking up a free Baron and engaging on the back of Blaze. A brutal four-man stun from Jaxx allowed Blaze to nearly wipe Dig out with only a couple of losses.

Dig caught out Lee Sin and Diana in the midlane and then pressed into the Blaze base 5v3. They took one Nexus tower but Vayne managed to escape with almost no health once again and Dig were unable to end the game. Slugfest after slugfest goes slightly in Dig’s favour but only just and a last-second inhib respawn saved Blaze once again from losing. The time it took for Dig to try and end the game meant Blaze took themselves a free Baron afterwards. The Baron buff was too much and Blaze won the next teamfight. Nunu and Rengar tried to rush the Nexus and got it down to ¼ but just didn’t have the damage. The Nexus attempt delayed Blaze enough that Corki respawned and stopped Blaze from ending the game. Dig five-man pushed mid but a nice engage from Diana allowed Blaze to take the next teamfight and the win. An amazingly close game, world-class play from both teams. The best game in the event so far.

MVP: Lustboy will be taking this golden crown. Sure, it was Vayne who did the killing, but the big play that took Blaze back into the driving seat was a Glitterlance from Lulu onto Rengar. It pulled Dig into a fight they didn’t want and allowed Blaze to clean up and take back control. In addition to that he managed to cancel several Corki valk’s and this was pivotal in their victory. World class support play, both games.

A much closer set than the 2-0 score would suggest both teams put on a good show. Blaze proved the stronger team however and secured their spot in the top three.

League of Legends - CLG.Black once again prove themselves against Dignitas

Dignitas vs. CLG.Black

For this match up, CLG.Black brought in Wingsofdeath as they're top laner and keeping everyone else as they were against iG. It would soon be proven whether or not this change would benefit CLG.Black.

Game one

Dignitas

Bans: Orianna, Alistar, Jayce

Picks

  • Ezreal - Imaqtpie (adc)
  • Blitzcrank - Patoy (support)
  • Shen - Crumbz (top)
  • Shyvanna - IWDominate (jungle)
  • Karthus - scarra (mid)

CLG.Black

Bans: Diana, Evelynn, Rengar

Picks

  • Maokai - Sycho Sid (jungle)
  • Sona - BloodWater (support)
  • Kog'Maw - Zuna (adc)
  • Singed - Wingsofdeath (top)
  • Lux - LINk115 (mid)

In game one, both teams opted for a passive farming game. Being the mechanically superior team, Dignitas pulled out ahead and slowly gained control of the game. Funnily enough, both teams decided to attempt a split pushing strategy with Singed for CLG.Black, and Shen for Dignitas. However, in the face-off between Shen (Crumbz) and Singed (Wingsofdeath), Crumbz had the upper hand. With Dignitas as a whole having the farm lead, and a more threatening split pusher, the passive play had completely different meanings for both teams. CLG.Black seemed to continue trying to be careful, while Dignitas seemed to be patiently waiting for their chance to win. This chance presented itself when Dignitas was able to pick up baron after winning back to back team fights. This allowed Dignitas to be more aggressive which won them a 4-0 team fight in a final push for the win.

Game two

Dignitas

Bans: Rengar, Jayce, Shen

Picks

  • Kha'zix - Crumbz (top)
  • Corki - Imaqtpie (adc)
  • Orianna - scarra (mid)
  • Taric - Patoy (support)
  • Malphite - IWDominate (jungle)

CLG.Black

Bans: Diana, Evelynn, Karthus

Picks

  • Ezreal - LINk115 (mid)
  • Sona - BloodWater (support)
  • Lee Sin - Sycho Sid (jungle)
  • Olaf - Wingsofdeath (top)
  • Sivir - Zuna (adc)

In game two, CLG.Black drastically changed their strategy. CLG.Black realized they can't play too passively against Dignitas and picked a mobile team. Sycho Sid on Lee Sin, was able to make good use of his mobility to effectively gank and counter gank. With such a mobile team and having more aggression, CLG.Black was able to gain the lead. Finally, at around 27 minutes, CLG.Black was able to ace Dignitas which allowed them to take an inhibitor and baron. Straight off of baron, IWDominate (Malphite) was caught out of position and killed, forcing the surrender from Dignitas, knowing they can't hold off a push from a baron buffed team in a 4v5 situation.

This game was drastically different from game one. CLG.Black's mobility allowed them to dodge AoE ultimates, and split Dignitas for more favorable team fights which always gave them the upper hand and allowed them to win.

Game three

Dignitas

Bans: Jayce, Sona, Ereal

Picks

  • Varus - Imaqtpie (adc)
  • Shyvana - IWdominate (jungle)
  • Orianna - scarra (mid)
  • Lulu - Patoy (support)
  • Shen - Crumbz (top)

CLG.Black

Bans: Evelynn, Diana, Rengar

Picks

  • Cassiopeia - LINk115 (mid)
  • Alistar - BloodWater (support)
  • Corki - Zuna (adc)
  • Nidalee - Wingsofdeath (top)
  • Lee Sin - Sycho Sid (jungle)

After a lane switch from both teams, Dignitas continued their passive play while Sycho Sid (Lee Sin) focused his aggression towards top, which helped Corki (Zuna) gain an early advantage against Varus (Imaqtpie). Bot lane became a farming lane between bruisers like game one. The game progressed with neither team gaining a clear lead. Eventually, Wingsofdeath would emerge as the hero of this match. After a certain point, Wingsofdeath (Nidalee)  refused to leave bot lane, constantly placing pressure on turrets. Of course, Crumbz, with his global presence, was the ideal candidate to stop Nidalee. However, CLG.Black would not allow the first game to repeat itself. The remaining four players of CLG.Black baited baron which pulled Shen away from the bot lane and allowed Nidalee to take the inhibitor turret. Realizing their advantage, CLG.Black would continue to pull Dignitas into fights, allowing Nidalee to whittle away the enemy base. Finally, with an open enemy nexus, CLG.Black engaged in a 4v4 team fight at top lane. Dignitas, hoped that Shen could keep Nidalee at bay, however, their expectations fell short. Nidalee was able to kill Shen and move on to win the game for his team.

Key Plays

  • Constant baits and pressure from CLG.Black in game 3 allowed Nidalee to split push.
  • Game 2, IWDominate (Malphite) was caught out of position after CLG.Black took baron, forcing the surrender

MVP

The MVP is undoubtedly Wingsofdeath in game three. Despite being the sub, he single handedly won the game with his Nidalee split push. He created a situation in which Shen could not leave bot lane without suffering consequences, and gained a lead big enough to beat Shen 1v1 for the win.

Other Thoughts

I felt Dignitas had no real will to win this match. There was no aggression, no threats created, and no drive to win. Dignitas played solidly, but too passively. This passivity allowed CLG.Black to walk all over them in games two and three. Even with their defeat in game two, Dignitas failed to make any aggressive responses in game three (despite game three being the closest match). On the other hand, CLG.Black immediately realized what they needed to win, and executed very well despite another change to their roster. They played much more in sync than even the match against iG. As the underdogs of multiple matches, their drive to win and adaptability allowed them to win this match. While once again, they seem like the underdogs in their match-up against Mono.Ferus, they have already proven, by knocking out two world class teams, that they are not to be underestimated.

StarCraft II - IPTL - NsHoSeo needs a good showing vs Karont3 to advance to Up and Downs

Contender Division Group B has the most difficult situation to asses. Why? Currently, there are 3 teams with similar score: Team Empire 1-2 (10-13 in small points), Team Dignitas 1-2 (10-11) in small points and New Star HoSeo 1-1 (6-7) with one game left. Who’s going to join Karont3 e-Sports Club in the Up and Down Matches?

The game between the Spanish organization and Koreans is going to be the decisive factor in establishing the final result in their group.

Karont3 e-Sports Club line-up: LoLvsxD (Z), LucifroN (T), Ryo (P), VortiX (Z), AlaStOr (Z), MikOeL (T), Verdi (P)

New Star HoSeo line-up: Tassadar (P), jjakji (T), Seal (Z), Sculp (T), SalvatioN (T), Brave (P)

Potential starters

Karont3 e-Sports Club: AlaStOr (Z), MikOeL (T), Verdi (P)

Three players that I’ve put above are the ones loaned from other teams purely for the “Team Games:” AlastOr is playing for French organization, Team LDLC.com, MikOeL represents another Spanish team, Aprender, and Verdi wears Vega Squadron tag together with DaNa, Polish player who will probably represent his country in the upcoming WCG 2012 Finals.

So far, both Spaniards have opened a game for Karont3 with Zerg falling to BlinG and MikOeL defeating Beastyqt, but later losing to Brat_OK. Now it’s time for Verdi to open the most important match for the Spanish team thus far.

New Star HoSeo: Tassadar (P), Sculp (T), Seal (Z)

New Star HoSeo went from being one of the best teams in Korea to a mediocre organization with one star player on the roster and average key players. They’ve lost four players over the last 3 months and their IPTL performance wasn’t as good as people would expect especially in one of the weakest groups in Season 1.

So far, both Brave and SalvatioN opened a game, so now it’s time for one of the core NSH players to be the lucky participant in the opening game against Karont3. Just like with the Spanish, NSH starters represent all three races available in Starcraft 2. Should be interesting.

Key players

Karont3 e-Sports Club: MikOeL (T), Verdi (P)

Both have decent results in IPTL and look strong against New Star HoSeo. I can see Verdi taking even a double-kill if Karont3 decide to use him in this match. As for MikOeL, he should be able to win at least one match just like he did against Team Empire, but will probably lose the next one. One should bear in mind that mediocre Korean player is still a level above decent European. We will see if that’s true in this case as well.

New Star HoSeo: Tassadar (P), SalvatioN (T)

So far besides jjakji they are the only players to grab a win in IPTL Season 1, thus it is safe to assume that they might be able to do it again especially against core Karont3 players. However, even when most of Karont3 roster is out there are always LucifroN and Vortix left who might be more than enough for NSH this time.

Ace players

Karont3 e-Sports Club: LucifroN (T), Vortix (Z)

Duran brothers are currently considered top Europeans with a huge potential that they’ve been showing for the past few months. IEM and DreamHacks were perfect tournaments for them to shine and make room for themselves among the best of the best in the world.

Both had a huge experience with Warcraft 3, but back then it was LucifroN who managed to achieve some international recognition. This time it is Vortix leading the family with impressive results lately.

But, are they going to fall in a slump as always? LucifroN was a one game wonder back in W3 era and after three / four good tournaments he quickly became another pray among beasts like Grubby, Moon or Sky. Is the same thing going to happen to Vortix? Let’s hope not.

New Star HoSeo: jjakji (T)

Although he failed to stay in GSL Code A jjakji is the best player on NSH, but despite his unstable play he managed to grab a victory for NSH in their match against Team Empire. However, in NSH match against Team Dignitas he wasn’t able to defeat Bischu.

Prediction

New Star HoSeo 1 > 5 Karont3 e-Sports Club

At this point Karont3 is just too much for NSH. If Team Dignitas was able to defeat NSH 5 – 1 then Karont3 will crush them even harder. I expect to see one game won by jjakji  and that’s it. In that case, Karont3, Team Dignitas and Team Empire will have 1-2 score so their small points will count when deciding who’s going Karont3 in the Up and Down Matches. However, if NSH win then both them and Karont3 are the undisputed winners of Contender Division Group B.

Tune in on October 19th to our stream to watch Karont3 e-Sports Club against New Star HoSeo live!

League of Legends Finalists Disqualified in Pro Circuit Conspiracy

The first and second place teams in MLG's Summer Championship League of Legends Event have been disqualified. A "collusion" between Team Dignitas and Curse NA has been led to a violation of the Major League Gaming Pro Conduct rules. As such, neither team will be awarded Circuit points, and the third and fourth place teams will earn the first and second place points and prize money, respectively.

Neither team denies the allegations or is fighting against the ruling. In fact, according to MLG's website, "Both teams have agreed that the disqualification was warranted," although the specifics of the pro gaming conspiracy remain unknown.

Developer Riot Games recently created its own league for professional League of Legends play, and is in agreement regarding the collusion decision.
