Microsoft Surface Will Be Released on October 26

In a report filed today with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Microsoft revealed that its Surface tablet will be released along with Windows 8.

“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices,” the filing read.

The late October release will strategically straddle the back-to-school and holiday seasons. Microsoft has yet to release pricing details, but as they've previous stated that Surface will be priced to compete with tablets running similar ARM chipsets, we expect to see a price in the neighborhood of $500. The New York Times reports that Microsoft plans to release a "pro" version of the Surface with Intel chips, "about three months after it releases the ARM-based Surface," priced to compete with $1000 ultrabooks.
