Thermaltake Adds a Fan to a Gaming Mouse

Clammy-handed PC gamers rejoice! If it works like it's supposed to, the Cyclone edition of Thermaltake's Black Element gaming mouse is set to draw plenty of fan-fare.

The $80 mouse (due out in early August, according to Engadget) will feature nine customizable macro keys, a 6500 DPI laser sensor, and an adjustable weight of 4.5 to 22.5 grams. But the revolution here is the removable 5V 6,000 RPM fan mounted on the Cyclone's front end, promising enough airflow to cool off even the sweatiest palms.

Thermaltake assures us the fan won't be too loud, citing noise levels of 21.7 dB. The Cyclone may appear wireless - Thermaltake's promotional images are cropped pretty close - but it relies on a 1.8 meter braided USB cable. Given how much power the fan will require, the lack of a wireless option is understandable.

While the crosshairs silhouette of the fan manages to make a questionable design choice look okay, it's hard to say without using the mouse hands-on whether it will blow us away or turn out to be an ugly hood-ornament.
