Is Guillermo del Toro Making a DC Supernatural Team-Up Movie?

He is. He isn't. Now maybe he is. Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has clarified those rumors about him doing a team-up film of DC's supernatural characters, a la the comic book series Justice League Dark.

Del Toro told io9, "I am talking to DC and Warners about tackling the 'Dark universe' characters, but we're not calling it [Heaven Sent]. I don't know where this title came from. We have a very concrete storyline that I'm proposing — but it's still very, very early days."

He said of the alleged lineup including the likes of Deadman, Swamp Thing, Constantine and Spectre, "They're great characters. I relate to them because they are supernatural monsters, first and foremost." But he stressed again that "it's way early days."

So let's just keep our hopes in check for the time being, fellow fanboys.

Lionsgate Buys Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions announced today that they've acquired filmmaker Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing, a contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic comedy.

Unlike his blockbuster The Avengers, Much Ado is a low-budget indie shot in black & white. Whedon filmed it in less than two weeks at his home upon completing Avengers. It's the first production of his micro-studio Bellwether Pictures.

The film, which screened at this week's Toronto International Film Festival, stars such Whedon veterans as Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher, Clark Gregg, and Reed Diamond.

“I’m thrilled to be working with my cronies at Lionsgate again, and with The Roadside team," said Whedon in a statement. "That they all embrace a Shakespearean romance with the same enthusiasm they had for 'Cabin in the Woods' shows that they’re exactly the mad fools we want to be partying – I mean working – with.”

In addition to Emily Rose, Derrickson directed 2008's The Day the Earth Stood Still and penned the screenplay for the upcoming Devil's Knot.

Hold Your Horses on that Fourth Avatar

Remember back in June when James Cameron announced that he would be shooting three Avatar sequels simultaneously? Well, now it seems that the filmmaker may have been getting a little ahead of himself.

Indie Wire reports that Avatar 4 will not be a part of Cameron's back-to-back film shoot, according to producer Jon Landau. Additionally, it is still uncertain when production for Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 will begin as the former is currently slated for release no earlier than 2015.

The delays carry over into Cameron's World of Avatar attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, which was announced around this time last year. Due to creative differences between Cameron and Disney's Imagineer development team, it seems as though we'll be waiting even longer on that project as well.

    M. Night Shyamalan Turns to TV with New Syfy Pilot, Proof

Syfy has given movie filmmaker M. Night Syhamalan a put-pilot commitment to a new project called Proof, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story centers on the son of a billionaire tech genius who offers up a substantial reward to anyone who can find proof of life after death following the untimely death of his parents. Shyamalan will direct the project for Universal Cable Productions, with former Buffy the Vampire Slayer executive producer Marti Noxon signed on to produce and co-write the pilot alongside Shyamalan.

Meanwhile, Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls) and Robert Halmi Sr. are working with the network on a pilot of their own called High Noon, based on John Christopher’s cult 1969 young-adult sci-fi novel The Lotus Caves.

According to Deadline, Reunion Pictures will produce the 90-minute pilot, with production set to begin this fall in Vancouver. The site describes the story, which "creates a future where the countries of Earth have established colonies to mine the Moon's resources. When a new life form is discovered, chaos erupts as various factions race to uncover and exploit its powerful secrets."

It's a busy year for Fuller, who has Hannibal coming in the spring to NBC and also wrote and executive produced the pilot for The Munsters reboot at NBC, Mockingbird Lane.
