Despite failing to reach its Kickstarter goal of £300,000 last month, there's still life left in Death Inc.; the project from some of the brains behind LittleBigPlanet, Fable and Burnout is now adopting a paid alpha model and still plans to make it to market.
Anyone who pre-purchases the game for $10 (around £7) will be granted immediate access to the alpha test for the arcade strategy game by Ambient Studios that's reminiscent of both Pikmin and Lemmings, with the full game being available in November 2013 for £14.99/$19.99.
We were overwhelmed by the support we received during our recent Kickstarter campaign.
Pre-purchasing the game and participating in the alpha will net you access to special pre-purchase-only development builds, secret forums and other various rewards.
Studio director Jonny Hopper explained, "We were overwhelmed by the support we received during our recent Kickstarter campaign. Despite the fact we didn’t reach our initial target, we did raise support of over £122,000 – that’s a tremendous amount of support which has given us the confidence to push on."
We visited the studio back in February to learn more about the game, where we discovered the story of Grim T. Livingstone, an employee of the Ministry of Mortality who's become disillusioned by it all – the repetition of dealing out death with grinding efficiency. Where’s the flair? The sense of individuality? So he strikes out on his own, forming Death Inc. – a startup run out of the basement of his elderly relative's cottage.
The title is available to pre-purchase now and anyone doing so will gain immediate access to the alpha and all subsequent builds through to the final game.
