Bethesda: Nintendo Needs 'Better Support' for Third-Party Devs

Bethesda Softworks' vice president of public relations, Pete Hines, has never acted shy about the current state of Nintendo's support of third-party developers for the Wii U. And after appearing on a recent episode of GameTrailers' Bonus Round (via GameSpot), it sounds like the Skyrim publisher hasn't changed its stance.

Hines had previously criticized Nintendo's approach to third-party development support for the Wii U, but during an interview at QuakeCon, stated the lack of Bethesda titles on the console were "largely a hardware thing." Now, it seems as though Hines is once again citing a clear lack of developer support as a reason for Bethesda's avoidance of Wii U releases.

"If you're just going sort [of] deciding, 'we're going to make a box and this is how it works and you should make games for it'. Well, no. No is my answer," said Hines. "I'm going to focus on other ones that better support what it is we're trying to do."

Whether it's hardware or sluggish sales, the Wii U is struggling. And despite a price drop on the horizon, Nintendo has done little in the way of courting major third-party development for the system. According to Hines, Nintendo should "do what Sony and Microsoft have done with [Bethesda] for a long time," in regards to keeping developers in the loop in regards to its console.

Bethesda is currently at work on Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Elder Scrolls Online.
