Taylor Swift and Katie Holmes have signed on to join Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in director Phillip Noyce's feature adaptation of The Giver, from Walden Media.
Based on the 1993 dystopian young adult novel by Lois Lowry, the film stars Brenton Thwaites as a young boy who is selected for his life service as the Receiver of Memories. He works with The Giver (Bridges), an old man who teaches the boy to hone his sensory gifts. Streep will play the antagonistic Chief Elder, who assigns the young their tasks.
According to THR, Homes will play Thwaites' character's mother. Swift's role has yet to be revealed.
Other cast members include Alexander Skarsgard (Truse Blood), Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green), and Cameron Monaghan (Shameless).
The Giver will begin shooting this October in Cape Town, South Africa.
