Former Nintendo President Dies at 85

In a report by Nikkei, former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi died today. He was 85.

Yamauchi was the third president of Nintendo, and he first assumed the position in 1949. Under his leadership, Nintendo entered the video game and electronics market and established itself as a global leader in the industry. He stepped down from the role in May 2002 and was succeeded by Satoru Iwata.

He passed away at a Kyoto hospital while suffering from pneumonia.
