GTA Fan Creates a Grand Theft Auto 5 3D Terrain Map

Grand Theft Auto fans can now get a sense of what to expect from Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto V thanks to an individual who has put together a 3D terrain map of GTA V's version of the city.

A member of the iGTA5.com forums, 3D environmental artist Chris Bush, recently published the terrain map on Sketchfab, which you can see below or here. This is the first revision to his initial attempt at a terrain map and adds color, tweaks some details, and adds landmarks which he says are there for scale.

As a fan-made map, this is by no means an official look at what to expect from GTA V; without access to the game, an accurate representation of the map -- a 3D one especially -- is impossible. Imperfect as it may be, a great deal of effort has gone into its creation, as this terrain map is based not on leaks, as you might expect, but on an extensive amount of work done by Bush and others to map out Los Santos based on what Rockstar has shown of it ahead of the game's release.

IGN's hands-on preview of Grand Theft Auto V has gone live today, complete with a look at five missions from the much-anticipated title. After going gold just recently, Rockstar has provided more details on the contents of the Special and Collectors Editions and released an official trailer.

Grand Theft Auto V will be out on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 17, with Grand Theft Auto Online following on October 1.
