Sean Patrick Flanery Boards Dexter Season 8

Sean Patrick Flanery (The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Saw 3D) is set to join the cast of Dexter for the upcoming 8th (and possibly final) season, TV Line reports. If you don’t recall Flanery as the youthful iteration of Dr. Jones, then you may be familiar his work in the Indy cult-favorite The Boondock Saints alongside The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus.

Earlier this month it was revealed that two new characters would be playing key roles in Dexter Season 8. Flanery is set to play the first, Jacob Elroy, who is described as, "a handsome and straightforward former cop who now owns his own private eye business."  British actress Charlotte Rampling will portray second character, Dr. Evelyn Vogel, who is described as, "a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist who assists the law in profiling criminals."

We will discover how these two interact with, and possibly thwart, our beloved Dexter and Deb when the show returns for an early premiere on Sunday June 30.

As to the show’s ultimate fate, as we reported from the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour earlier this month, Showtime president David Nevins remains evasive.

"Dexter is to showtime is what Batman is to Warner Brothers," Nevins said. "I want to take care of it in a way that is respectful to the franchise, and takes care of the fans." When asked if this will indeed be the final season for the popular series, Nevins would not confirm, saying, “We’re not making any announcements today about when Dexter will end. I think I will clarify before Dexter goes on this season. We have a clear end game in place, [but] I can’t talk about it just yet.” Adding, "Dexter's end is a creative decision, and ultimately will be made for creative reasons." Nevins did promise that he would be announcing details on the series' close in the near future.

We will keep you updated as details emerge.
