Official CBS Statement on Super Bowl Power Outage

It was no doubt an absolute nightmare behind the scenes at CBS tonight. In the middle of the Super Bowl, the most watched television broadcast every year, there was a power outage at the Superdome, leading to a prolonged delay in the game. As everyone knows, Super Bowl ads are the the most coveted (and thus most expensive) each year, due to the guarantee of a giant audience. This lead to some questions about whether the delay would lead to any issues with those ads airing as planned.

CBS have released a statement regarding the power outage. Says the network:

“Immediately after the power failure in the Superdome, we lost numerous cameras and some audio powered by sources in the Superdome.  We utilized CBS’s back-up power and at no time did we leave the air.  During the interruption, CBS Sports’ Steve Tasker, Solomon Wilcots and our studio team reported on the situation as a breaking news story, providing updates and reports while full power was being restored to the dome including our sets and broadcast booth.  All commercial commitments during the broadcast are being honored.”

One thing is for sure - the power outage lead to an amazing time for those of us reading all the comedic responses on Twitter.
