Whether they call them "limited series", "limited run" series or "event series", it looks like the miniseries is coming back in a big way on TV. Today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, NBC announced several new miniseries in the works, including a four-hour biopic about Hilary Clinton, starring Dianne Lane.
In addition, NBC announced they will be doing miniseries remakes of two horror well-known stories - Rosemary's Baby and Stephen King's The Tommyknockers. Based on a novel, Rosemary's Baby was of course also an iconic feature film from Roman Polanski, starring Mia Farrow, while The Tommyknockers was done as a miniseries in 1993. In making the announcement about The Tommyknockers, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt acknowledged CBS's success with Under the Dome as perhaps helping them take a look at the Stephen King catalog.
NBC had previously ordered a follow-up to the hugely successful The Bible (which aired on History), from producer Mark Burnett. NBC will also be teaming with Burnett on a Plymouth Rock-themed miniseries.
On the miniseries/limited series front, FOX has several in the works as well, including M. Night Shyamalan's Wayward Pines and 24: Live Another Day, while FX is also developing projects like a new version of The Last of the Mohicans.
