New Deus Ex and Hitman Trademarks Filed in Europe

The first indications of what Square Enix plans to do next with the Deus Ex and Hitman franchises may have just surfaced by way of trademarks the publisher has filed for in Europe.

As discovered by Siliconera and verified by IGN, three new trademarks were filed for in Europe on September 10. In the case of Hitman, there are two trademarks, one for "Hitman Sniper" and one for "Hitman Go." The Deus Ex trademark is for something called "Deus Ex Universe."

No description is provided for any of the three, so we don't yet know for sure whether these are the names of new games or something else entirely. Both franchises have expanded beyond games in the past. Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a comic book series, a spin-off novel, The Icarus Effect, and a film adaptation that was announced last year. We also know a Hitman film reboot is in the works that would reportedly star Paul Walker.

What do you hope these names are used for? A name like Deus Ex Universe, in particular, lends itself to many possibilities. Let us know your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned to IGN for the latest on all things Hitman and Deus Ex.
