Ultra Rare Pikachu Illustrator Card on Sale For $100,000

One of the rarest Pokemon trading cards has gone on sale for a whopping $100,000.

A copy of the Pikachu Illustrator promo card is being sold by Scott Prate of Edwardsville, Illinois on eBay right now for the hefty asking price, which is supposedly justified by the fact only six copies of the card were ever put into circulation.

Pikachu Illustrator

Originally given as a reward for those who had a winning entry in the Japanese Pokemon Card Game Illustration Contest that started in 1997, one copy is known to be held by the Official Pokemon TCG Blog, meaning only five are actually doing the rounds out there.

The Pikachu Illustrator card is the only card with a unique pen symbol in the bottom right corner and features a double-star rarity. In the past, one of them was sold for $20,000; shy of the $100,000 Prate is searching for for his card, yet still enough to secure its place as one of the most valuable Pokemon cards in existence.

Whether the card will end up going for as much as he hopes remains to be seen. He's shown he's prepared to hold out for the right offer however, having already turned down 490 bids and set a personal target of around $50,000 for the card.

So, anyone tempted? It's an investment, right!?
