Development continues on Bohemia Interactive's standalone version of DayZ. The creator of the original mod, Dean "Rocket" Hall, continues to provide regular updates on the game's progress via the official blog. Yesterday marked a change in the updates, though, with the release of the first footage of DayZ.
The footage doesn't show typical DayZ gameplay, and is not indicative of how the final product will look or perform, but does highlight a few updated features. These include an updated UI, new clothing effects, new item spawning to make it feel like you're actually scavenging, and improved indoor spaces.
Hall notes that, "development is continuing to progress in extremely positive ways," but that, "we haven’t moved to our closed external testing just yet." He also confirmed that they don't have a timetable for when this will happen, but did state that Bohemia Interactive is, "confident it won’t be too long before you’ll be able to join in the development yourself." The team is currently focusing on their inventory and crafting systems, as well as server architecture.
