Comic-Con: Marvel Ultimate Universe Panel Recap

Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso, Joshua Hale Fialkov and Brian Michael Bendis joined a packed room of Marvel Ultimate Comics Universe fans to give the scoop on the fate of the imprint and what readers can expect in upcoming months.

“Thank you for buying this book and thank you for making Miles live in a legitimate part of the Spider-Man mythos,” Bendis said of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Of the new story arc, he said fans that look forward the debut of Ultimate Taskmaster.

“When I came on the book, I wanted to do the craziest thing possible. Brian told me to do whatever the craziest thing you have ever wanted to do that they would never normally let you do, do that. So I started off with the Hulk armed with two Infinity Gauntlets,” Fialkov said of Ultimate Comics Ultimate.

Next up, the panel discussed Hunger, the storyline that would feature the Earth 616 Galactus invading the Ultimate Universe. Bendis said he got the idea for the event from Matt Fraction, who suggested that would be the craziest possible thing that could happen at the end of Age of Ultron.

“I’m a big fan of the cosmic stuff, so we’ll get stuff like the Silver Surfer, the Kree and others. I get to use all these characters that I’m a big fan off,” Fialkov said. He joked that nothing was going to survive by the end of the event, so he figured he through everything in.

The panel then announced Cataclysm, an event which would detail the Ultimates last stand against Galactus. “This is a very, very important chapter in the Ultimate Universe,” Bendis said. He went on to say that the barriers between the regular Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe. “This will be the biggest change to the Ultimate Universe since its creation.” Artist Mark Bagley will be returning to the Ultimate Universe to draw the 5 issue event which will be launching in November. Bendis praised Bagley and said he was very excited to work again with him.
