Disney has announced that it has picked up the distribution rights to four of Marvel Studios' Phase One films -- Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger.
A press release tells us that Paramount, the original distributor of most of Marvel's theatrical films before the Mouse House acquired the studio in 2009, "was paid for the transfer of the distribution rights." Ah, so they were paid… Thanks for clearing that up for us, guys!
So what does this mean? Basically that Disney and Marvel are getting all their superhero ducks in a row. They now have the home entertainment rights to the four films, so get ready for some Blu-ray double-dipping! As for the status of The Incredible Hulk, which was distributed by Universal and not Paramount, well… maybe Ed Norton knows?
