David Slade to Direct Crossbones Series Opener

David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hannibal) has signed on to direct the series opener for NBC's upcoming pirate drama Crossbones, Deadline reports.

The high profile drama is from from Luther creator Neil Cross and producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald received a straight-to-series order from the network. Crossbones follows ruthless pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (John Malkovich) in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence where he rules the thieving, pirating and lost-soul inhabitants.

Slade also helmed the pilots for Awake and Hannibal, the director also serves as an executive producer on the latter where he directs multiple episodes. Additionally, Slade will also direct the premiere episode for Battlestar Galactica developer/executive producer Ron Moore's new series for Syfy, Helix.
