David Green, director of the low-budget sci-fi movie Echo, will now direct his first major studio tentpole in Lore, an adaptation of the IDW book/graphic novel that has Dwayne Johnson attached to star (pending scheduling).
With a script by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott, Lore tells the story of a secret society of shepherds -- monster shepherds, that is -- and when the succession line is broken in modern times, a woman finds herself shouldering the responsibility to stop various mythological creatures from overrunning the mortal realm.
Green is replacing Men in Black director Barry Sonnenfeld, who was originally attached to helm the project before he and Warner Bros. reached a standstill on a budget dispute. Still, Sonnenfeld will have an executive-producer credit on the film.
Meanwhile, Green's film Echo, about a group of teens who receive mysterious messages on their cell phones, is now slated for release on January 10, 2014.
