Attendees at Friday's D23 Expo got a very special treat when Pixar screened their new Monsters University sequel-ish short film Party Central in its entirety almost a full year before it will be released in theaters.
In the short, Mike and Sulley are back at Monsters University for a fun-filled weekend with their Oozma Kappa fraternity brothers: Squishy, Don Carlton, Art, and Terri & Terry.
The gang is throwing their first party, but no one’s showing up. Luckily for them, Mike and Sulley have come up with a plan to make sure “Party Central” is the most epic party the school has ever seen.
They use their portal doors to travel into the party being thrown at the same time by their rival frats JOX (Jaws Theta Chi) and ROR (Roar Omega Roar). Sulley's door trips between the two parties forces him to pass through the bedroom of a sleeping human couple. (The payoff to this bit is too good to spoil.)
Ultimately, the OK gang have managed to pilfer all the food, drinks and guests from their rivals' party -- and that's when Squishy's mom catches them (yes, doing more laundry). This leads to Squishy's mom showing by hilarious example the Monsters party tradition known as "door jamming."
Party Central will be in theaters May 30, 2014, with Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.
