The first issue of Quantum and Woody was great, but this second issue is freaking amazing. It takes everything that worked in that first book and ramps it up to eleven. You'll laugh out loud at how seriously awful the two main characters of this book are. Terrible people, through and through. Political correctness goes right out the window and humor rests comfortably in the gutter. Brilliant might not be the right word, but it's the only one that comes to mind. So, throwing good taste aside, we'll call Quantum and Woody brilliant.
James Asmus manages to instill Quantum and Woody with some heart and genuinely charming moments. These brothers from other mothers do have a few serious scenes. That's great. But let's be honest, what really makes this issue work are moment like when the two lead characters' penises accidentally touch. This is a really and truly, funny comic book. It earns its jokes, even if they are as lowbrow as jokes get.
Tom Fowler, guys. Tom Fowler. The man can draw, oh my, my. His character work is some of the best in the biz. Aside from drawing the fantastic expressive lead characters (who are naked for like 50% of the issue) he also gets to populate the world with some insanely grotesque humans. The little man a the end is amazing, riding in a cybernetic wheel chair and promising to dump his pee on those who oppose him. It's so wonderfully offense and beautifully bizarre. Nobody is making superhero books like this, which exactly why you should be paying attention to Valiant comics.
