Prisoners Captures the Top Spot at the Weekend Box Office

The dark new thriller Prisoners, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, debuted atop the weekend box office with an estimated $21.4 million. Last weekend's champ, Insidious Chapter 2, dropped to second place with $14.5 million.

Not faring as well was Battle of the Year -- starring Josh Holloway, Josh Peck, and Chris Brown -- which bowed in fifth place with $5 million.

The Wizard of Oz: An IMAX 3D Experience, the gussied up re-release of the 1939 screen classic, opened in 9th place with $3 million. Meanwhile, Ron Howard's fact-based race car driver story Rush opened on just five screens with $200,000. It will expand into wide release in the coming weeks.
