Sony Releases Mysterious New PlayStation Trailer

Today, Sony released a short, 16 second advertisement on the PlayStation YouTube channel. You can watch it below.

The woman seen at the desk in the story appears to be the same woman from the famous Michael Ad that Sony released last year, celebrating some of Sony’s characters and a gamer named Michael who assisted them all on their adventures.

The Michael ad was over two minutes long however, making this tease, called “The Reload,” far shorter. And there are some clues in the video that indicate what Sony could be teasing.

At the outset of the video, there are a couple of things worth nothing. There’s a clock on the wall next to the mysterious figure at the desk, with the PlayStation’s four controller symbols on it. Additionally, there’s a sign on the desk that says SARU! GET YOU!, a reference to Sony’s Ape Escape franchise.

But perhaps the biggest feature of the short clip is when the power goes out, and you hear that telltale electrical sound that indicates Cole from Infamous may be nearby. The woman at the desk looks up at whoever is there, almost disappointed, as she basks in the glow of the electricity.

The date shown at the end of the ad is October 23, 2012, which is the date the new PlayStation Store design is set to go live in North America. The title of the video, along with this date, would indicate that this is the most obvious answer to what the video is teasing.

However, the connection to the Michael ad could mean a continuation of that ad campaign, perhaps with the introduction of some new characters. Maybe it's even an early PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale teaser.

Then again, the fleeting hope of most of the PlayStation faithful -- however unlikely -- is that the allusion to Cole at the end means that we'll be hearing about a new Infamous game.

Image's Dear Dracula Heads to Cartoon Network

It's hard to find any TV channel these days that isn't offering some sort of programming influenced by comic books. AMC has The Walking Dead and Comic Book Men. The CW has Arrow. Disney XD has Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultimate Spider-Man. Cartoon Network has already found success with its DC Nation programming block, but now they're turning to a very different sort of comic for their next adaptation.

Today, Image Comics announced that Cartoon Network will be airing a one-hour animated adaptation of the graphic novel Dear Dracula. This OGN was originally published in 2008 under Image's Shadowline imprint. It was written by Josh Williamson and drawn by Vincente Navarrete. The story follows a boy named Sam with an unusual obsession with vampires. This peculiar interest leads Sam to write a Christmas letter to Dracula rather than Santa Claus. And naturally, Dracula arrives at Sam's house to whisk him away and turn him into a vampire.

The animated special will air as part of Cartoon Network's "Spooky Specials" Halloween programming. It was produced by Kickstart Productions, whose other comic-inspired projects include Wolverine and the X-Men and The Amazing Screw-On Head. Brad Birch (Johnny Test) wrote the screenplay. The voice actors include the following:

• Ray Liotta (Dracula)
• Nathan Gamble (Sam)
• Ariel Winters (Emma)
• Emilio Estevez (Renfield)
• Marion Ross (Grandma)

Dear Dracula will air on Tuesday, October 16th at 7pm EST.

Channel Surfing Podcast, Episode 181

Welcome back to Channel Surfing, where I'm joined by guest host Jenna Mullins from E! this week.

First though a warning: We've got… audio issues this week! Yay! And unlike the infamous recent Skype-cast with Matt, I don't even have a good explanation for this one. Jenna and I were sitting in IGN's LA office, recording on the same equipment we always use, but something went wonky and while you can hear us, we sound oddly distant. And not just emotionally. Let's see if the Podcast lords are kinder next week, but my apologies. Channel Surfing: Always the top of the line in audio!

But let's get onto our topics this week, shall we? Jenna and I discuss this past weekend's Emmy awards and what we thought of the winners, including Homeland dominating and Mad Men being shut out. On the news front, we discuss J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuar¿n teaming at NBC, Ron Moore guiding A Knight's Tale to ABC and FX developing Fargo and The Strain as a TV shows. And we also chat about TV ratings from the past week and why CBS had a lower than expected Monday, while NBC Thursdays are looking dire.

We also discuss many of the season and series premieres airing this week, including How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Ben and Kate, Last Resort and Vegas.

Lastly, reader email brings us queries about Attack of the Show and Glee.

Gravity Falls' Big Video Game Episode

Since its debut in June, the animated series Gravity Falls has proven to be a very clever and witty addition to the Disney Channel lineup. And tonight’s brand new episode, called “Fight Fighters”, should prove especially notable for IGN readers, as it’s all about video games.

In “Fight Fighters”, Dipper (Jason Ritter) is challenged to a video game contest and is shocked when his favorite fighting game character, Rumble McSkirmish (prolific animation and video game voice actor Brian Bloom) comes to life to help him. However, Dipper soon finds that controlling Rumble is not so easy…

Check out a couple of clips from the episode below. While old school fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are the clear initial inspiration, you’ll see some notable nods to other games as well.

Gravity Falls: “Fight Fighters” airs Friday, September 14th at 9:30pm ET/PT on Disney Channel.

Red Dwarf X Poster Unveiled

Red Dwarf is returning to UK screens very soon, with TV channel Dave releasing the first poster from the forthcoming series.

The one-sheet – which can be seen below – reveals that the new series will commence at 9pm on Thursday, October 4th.

Red Dwarf X will run for six episodes, with the titles as follows…

1 - Trojan

2 - Fathers and Suns

3 - Lemons

4 - Entangled

5 - Dear Dave

6 - The Beginning

And it looks like the show will be screening simultaneously on PBS in the States, although that is yet to be confriemd. Whatever the case, we'll be reviewing the episodes here, so check back for further updates.
