Colin Firth Will Voice Paddington Bear

Studio Canal and producer David Heyman (Harry Potter) announced today that principal photography has begun for Paddington, a new live-action film based on the classic Paddington Bear stories by Michael Bond.

Oscar winner Colin Firth will provide the voice of Paddington Bear. He'll be joined by Hugh Bonneville as Mr. Brown, Nicole Kidman as the evil taxidermist determined to wreak her revenge, Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, Julie Walters as the housekeeper Mrs. Bird, and Jim Broadbent as Mr. Gruber, the owner of the antiques shop.

The story follows the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear with a passion for all things British who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined -- until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck ("Please look after this bear. Thank you.") and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rarest of bears catches the eye of a museum taxidermist.

Paddington will open in the U.K. on November 28th, 2014. The film will then get a stateside release in the first quarter of 2015. Paddington will be the first release under the new moniker TWC-Dimension.
