It turns out that the Man of Steel was almost cast as 007. Actor Henry Cavill donned the red cape and boots of Superman in this summer’s hit reboot, but it wasn’t long ago that he was beaten out for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale by Daniel Craig.
“When I wasn't selected for Bond, I was very disappointed,” Cavill told Nuts magazine. “I'd turned down a leading role in 300 because it was down to Daniel Craig and me, and auditioning for Bond took all my focus.
“The choice was between a younger Bond and one closer to his 40's, which is to say, Daniel Craig. But I've seen what Daniel did and I think the Bond producers made the right choice. He's fantastic.”
Craig’s latest Bond endeavor, Skyfall, raked in a staggering $1.1 billion worldwide, proving that he was a wise choice, indeed. However, with Man of Steel opening to a record-breaking $196 million global box office, Cavill surely can’t be too sore at being the star of a different blockbuster franchise.
But who knows? Perhaps by the time Craig ends his run as Bond, Cavill will be just ripe enough to trade in his cape for a tux. Never say never.
