FX Comedy Shows May be Heading to New Sister Channel

New reports say Fox Networks is looking at splitting its successful FX network into two, thus spreading its shows across a wider cable net.

Broadcasting & Cable reports that the new network, dubbed FXX, would replaced the Fox Soccer Channel and target younger viewers with a skew towards scripted comedy.

According to sources, FXX would air some of the original comedy series on FX -- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, etc. -- as well as the company's stockpile of appropriate theatrical movies. FX would then keep its more dramatic shows like Sons of Anarchy and Justified. (This would be similar to what Turner Broadcasting did with its drama-oriented TNT and the comedy-driven TBS.)

Current plans call for a launch in September, with roughly 75 million subscribers to follow. Fox has declined to comment on the details.
