Does Bradley Cooper Want to Play Lance Armstrong?

So is Bradley Cooper in the running to play cyclist Lance Armstrong, or isn’t he? From the sounds of it he is, but it’s been a confusing few days.

First J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot announced they were teaming up with Paramount Pictures to purchase the rights to forthcoming book Cycle of Lies: The Fall and Rise of Lance Armstrong by New York Times journalist Juliet Macur, with a view to filming it.

Then when quizzed about the project last week, Cooper told the BBC: “I would be interested in that. I think he’s fascinating. What a fascinating character.”

AccessHollywood caught up with the Silver Linings Playbook star at the Screen Actors Guild last night however, and when asked about his potential participation in the movie, Cooper said in the video below “Oh my god, that’s so nuts… I had no idea what [the interviewer] was talking about. I didn’t even know that J.J. has the rights, I had no idea.”

But Abrams himself had a different take on the situation, telling ET at the Producers Guild Awards that Cooper was interested, and that “He sent me an email, and we’ve been talking.”

So sounds like Bradley Cooper is/isn’t/is up to play the disgraced Tour de France champion – would you like to see him/not like to see him/like to see him in the role?

Chris Tilly is Entertainment Editor for IGN in the UK and would be prepared to play Armstrong if Cooper doesn’t land the role. His words appear on both Twitter and MyIGN.
