The first picture of Benedict Cumberbatch as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in forthcoming flick The Fifth Estate has been released.
According to The Guardian, principal photography began on the film this week “in an undisclosed location.”
The movie will be based on two tomes – WikiLeaks: My time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website, and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy – and apparently deal with the early years of the site.
Bill Condon directs, with the Sherlock star appearing alongside Daniel Bruhl (pictured as Assange’s friend confidant Daniel Domescheit-Berg), Laura Linney, Pater Capaldi, David Thewlis and Anthony Mackie.
"It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it's revolutionised the spread of information," Condon says in a statement. "So this film won't claim any long view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. We want to explore the complexities and challenges of transparency in the information age and, we hope, enliven and enrich the conversations WikiLeaks has already provoked."
The Fifth Estate is set to hit U.S. screens on November 15. Before then Cumbebatch will be seen as the villain in Star trek Into Darkness.
Chris Tilly is the Entertainment Editor for IGN in the UK and is disappointed that this still didn't leak on Assange's site. His words can be found on both Twitter and MyIGN.
