SNL: The Lonely Island Returns with a New Digital Short

When Andy Samberg left Saturday Night Live last year, it meant the end of an era as Samberg and his Lonely Island partners (and former SNL writers) Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer were the team behind the popular Digital Shorts. However, when I spoke to Samberg over the summer for a discussion in which we looked back at the Digital Shorts he said it was "totally possible" we could see a Digital Short pop up at some point, as SNL alum have a habit of doing guest appearances on the show. And on this weekend's new episode, that indeed was the case, as we got our first Digital Short from The Lonely Island since last season.

Andy Samberg Looks Back on SNL's Digital Shorts

Featuring SNL host Adam Levine (in his second Digital Short appearance) and rapper Kendrick Lamar, "YOLO" takes the idea of "You only live once" to its most extreme and paranoid place.

As a big fan of The Lonely Island, I'd place it as a middle-tier entry. It's certainly not a classic a la "I'm on a Boat" or "Jack Sparrow", but it's amusing and fun and, per usual, has a very catchy beat to go along with the comedy.

And best of all is the tag at the end, promising a new Lonely Island album this year. Which means more Digital Shorts must be on the way...
