CW Passes on Amazon/Wonder Woman Pilot – For Now

The CW has passed on Amazon, the pilot that focused on Diana, the woman destined to become Wonder Woman, Deadline reports. The network has just completed its pilot orders for this season, and Amazon is not among them.

According to the outlet, the network has plans to “roll the Wonder Woman origin project to next season,” though it also notes that the CW, “may order an off-cycle pilot.”

Earlier this month, CW president Mark Pedowitz spoke about the network's plans for Amazon, saying, “First off, we’re waiting to see the script. Second off, we’re busy casting for Diana as we speak. Hopefully the script works the way we want.” He added that Amazon was, “an origination story in the sense that Smallville was an origination story.”

Initial casting for the pilot began in November, and by the looks of things, the network has either not yet found its Wonder Woman, or is not happy with the script - or both. The project does remain a high priority for the CW, and Wonder Woman fans may take comfort in the notion that they, by all appearances, really do want to do her story justice.

The CW has ordered pilots for the Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals and a reboot of the cult British 1970s sci-fi series Tomorrow People from Arrow co-creator/executive producer Greg Berlanti and The Vampire Diaries co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec. More to come on that…
