Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes – ($4.99)
We first saw this innovative strategy title come to the Nintendo DS back in 2009, and it earned high praise and a well-deserved 8.9 review rating in our initial assessment of it. The design only got better then, two years later, when it came to consoles via PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade – it scored a 9.0 then. Now that it’s available as an iOS app, I’ve got no doubt it’s still just as engaging as ever – perhaps even more so. Give it a look:
Banana Kong – ($0.99)
It’s Banana Kong! He’s the craziest, most banana-crazed kong you’ve ever seen in a video game. (Just nobody tell the Donkey Kong Country developers about this one.)
Cracking Sands – ($4.99)
If the Mad Max movies kept their post-apocalyptic themes but were otherwise re-imagined into cartoony racing games, something close to Cracking Sands would probably be the result.
Dungeon Lore – ($1.99)
The developers at 3D Attack Interactive present a new App Store dungeon-crawler, this one built on a foundation of turn-based combat.
Dingle Dangle – ($0.99)
Once you’ve finished chuckling at the silliness of that name, take a look at the Dingle Dangle trailer. It does a good job of introducing Chillingo’s latest stars, the dangling Dingles.
Tennis in the Face – ($0.99)
This is no sports game – Tennis in the Face chronicles the adventures of an angry racquet-wielding warrior as he infiltrates a soda company and proceeds to send balls sailing toward the faces of every employee in sight. With ragdoll physics!
Headshots Alley – ($0.99)
And if tennis balls don’t pack enough impact for you, upgrade your ammo and keep aiming for enemies’ heads with Headshots Alley.
Tumblewords – ($0.99)
A new vocab-builder for all my fellow word nerds out there, Tumblewords mixes up a few of the genre’s common conventions. Take a look:
Pixel Quest RPG – ($0.99)
Last of the new releases for today is Pixel Quest RPG, the latest new game made to intentionally look old-school (while promising modern sandbox-style gameplay).
Mass Effect: Infiltrator – ($0.99)
EA rotates the price on this one down to 99 cents every few weeks, it seems, and so it’s happened once again. If you miss it? Well, probably no big deal. They’ll put it on sale again in February, no doubt. :p
Gesundheit! – (Free)
And then we’ve got three freebies for you today, starting with Gesundheit!. Anthony absolutely adored this game when he reviewed it back in 2011, awarded it an Editor’s Choice, a 9.5 review score and the high praise of saying it’s a game everyone should play. So, probably not too bad of an investment for zero dollars, right?
Total Recall – (Free)
Did you happen to catch this sci-fi remake in theaters last year? Whether you did or not, you might want to check out this official game of the movie for free.
Amateur Surgeon 2 – (Free)
Finally, the Amateur Surgeon is offering his operating skills pro-bono once again.
That’s it for today! The New Year is still young, so make a New Year’s resolution to not miss a single ASU all year – and help yourself succeed by subscribing to the App Store Update via email.
