Despite not being sold in the auction of THQ's assets that took place on January 22, it seems there's still a sliver of hope for the Darksiders franchise.
While SEGA, Koch Media, Crytek, Take-Two and Ubisoft all purchased various intellectual property and studios that once belonged to THQ, no one stepped forward to buy Vigil Games or Darksiders at the auction, meaning things looked pretty bleak.
As a result, the game's lead designer Haydn Dalton took to Twitter to lament what seemed to signify the end of his studio, particularly with regard to what the team had planned for Darksiders III.
There was a shimmer on a slither of hope, that at one point, there'd be a Darksiders III: 4 Player Co-Op; It rode off into the sunset today.

Now though, it seems that all may not be lost after all. Upon reading the above tweet, JP Kellams, a talent spotter, translator and writer for Platinum Games, was moved to respond, encouraging Kellams and other employees of Vigil to contact him if they were interested in a new job.
@haydndalton hey man. If anyone is interested in working with/at Platinum let me know how to get ahold of you via DM.

The good news didn't stop there though. Following on from Kellams reaching out to Dalton, Platinum head Atsushi Inaba tweeted (translated by Kotaku), "In THQ studio and IP selling off auction, Darksiders is unsold? [We] wanna buy it...on the cheap..."
This is a pretty exciting possibility. The Darksiders lore has always been one of the franchise's strongest points, so can you imagine what the creators of Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the Wonderful 101 could do with the series?
What do you think? What changes would you like to see happen to the Darksiders IP if Platinum snatch it up, or would you prefer the franchise to be left alone?
