New Terminator Film Aims for Avatar Producer, Dracula Director

When worlds collide… this is the kind of screenwriting team-up we get.

Deadline reports that Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have hired Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to write the new Terminator movie (Terminator 5 I guess we're calling it for now). It's an odd pairing, as Kalogridis is known for somewhat bigger pedigree projects like Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island and Oliver Stone's Alexander while Lussier is a bit more grindhouse, having written and/or directed films like My Bloody Valentine and Drive Angry. (Though that said, Kalogridis did get a "special thanks" credit on Lussier's Dracula 2000, so there is some prior relationship there.)

Anyhow, very little is known about the new Terminator film, though it's interesting to note that Kalogridis is pals with franchise creator James Cameron. She has an executive-producer credit on Avatar and shares a writing credit with Cameron on his yet-to-be-made Battle Angel.
