App Store Update: February 1

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Game Debuts

Domo: The Journey – ($1.99)

Japan’s quirky brown hero Domo-kun embarks on a new platforming adventure in the App Store starting today. Help me save the kidnapped Tashanna!

Ski Jumping Pro – ($0.99)

One of my favorite Winter Olympics events finally gets the video game treatment. (Not my #1 favorite. That’s curling, of course.) Ski Jumping is up there on the list, though, and the first-person perspective of zooming down the hill and then launching into the sky is definitely cool.

Stratosphere: Multiplayer Defense – ($1.99)

It’s two-player, head-to-head tower defense as you sit across the iPad from your opponent and try to balance your tactics – should you spend more time on defense, bolstering your own protective towers? Or should you go all-out on offense, spending your resources on creatures to attack your opponent?

Price Drops

God of Blades – ($1.99)

Rise from your grave! God of Blades is a combat-focused runner design that casts you as a dead king who's come back to life to defend his failing kingdom – which just so happens to be an alien world. It’s one dollar cheaper than usual today.

The Game of Life for iPad – ($0.99)

Will you go to college? Will you get married? How many kids will you end up with? You can play out an entire lifetime for yourself for just 99 cents right now.

Munch Time – (Free)

A hungry chameleon on a quest for lunch uses his long tongue to swing through the jungle. For free!

Early Bird HD – (Free)

In a game called Early Bird, you know what to do – go catch that worm!

BridgeBasher – (Free)

I’ll let the official description speak for this one: “BridgeBasher lets you design a bridge and then destroy it.” Simple enough.

EDGE Extended – (Free)

OK, this one’s way too cool-looking to skip over. Free cube-rolling 3D puzzling!

BallAHolic – (Free)

And finally, the action/puzzler that sounds like it’s in need of a 12-step support group.

That’s it for this week! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
