Google has officially unveiled the Chromebook Pixel, a high-resolution laptop running Chrome OS. The device builds upon the ever-increasing focus on cloud-computing, offering 1TB of online storage for every user, right out of the box. But Google is clearly betting on demand for a higher-end laptop with the Pixel, in comparison to the considerably cheaper, previous Chromebooks.
Featuring a touch-sensitive screen at 239ppi, the Chromebook Pixel certainly doesn't look like a slouch in the laptop space. Google refers to the display as the "highest pixel density of any laptop screen on the market today." The Pixel is wrapped in anodized aluminum alloy, features a 720p webcam, and runs on an Intel Core i5 processor.
Google announced two models: a WiFi-only Pixel for $1,299, and an LTE-enabled version for $1,449. You can place an order for a Chromebook Pixel through Google Play starting today, or visit a Best Buy retail location. The WiFi model will begin shipping next week, while the LTE version will begin shipping in the US in April.
