Today's IPTL "Up and Down" match pitted Prime and compLexity Gaming for the opportunity to move up in the bracket. Whatever team won moved to Premier Division, while the other team only has one more shot to do so.
Tale of the Tape:
Prime 1-2 (10-12) Premier Division
compLexity 2-0 (10-5) Contender Division
MKP just outplayed Trimaster and finished the game in one engagement
Ohana -- Game one
Prime.MKP v. coL.Trimaster
Both started similar builds with a quick expansion, but MKP went for two gas early. MKP's early tech with reactor meant hellion, Trimaster opened with three barracks. Finally, MKP pushed out with a bio ball/tank with cloaked banshee attack that denied Trimaster's expansion. Trimaster flank to clean up the caged attack, but MKP already was working on three bases. MKP met Trimaster's army in the middle and overwhelmed him for the game.
MKP's overwhelming aggression and timed hellion pushed finished game two.
Antiga Shipyard -- Game two
MKP v. Ryze
Ryze started with an early expansion and pool, while MKP went cheese with a double proxy barrack play. MKP's ploy to play cheese play worked and prompted a huge commitment to zerglings instead of mining. MKP transitioned into a hellion push with blue flame and just pushed through the expansion and the natural to do significant economy damage. The reinforced hellion prompted the GG and MKP went up two games.
Daybreak -- Game three
MKP v. Sasquatch
Another Zerg in Sasquatch was sent out to deal with MKP's momentum. A fast double gas from MKP and a fast expansion from Sasquatch started the match. As noted from the quick gas, MKP went for hellion with blue flame harassment with an answer of roaches from Sasquatch. MKP transitioned to tanks, while Sasquatch macro'd and moved up to spire play. Sasquatch's mutalisk and roach composition began to rain down aggression into MKP's two bases while he grabbed a fourth base. An overlord drop into MKP's main army ended the game with heavier supply and an all-kill threat was over.
A great timed push from Classic ended Sasquatch's chances.
Cloud Kingdom -- Game four Sasquatch v. Classic
Both players began slow with a macro-heavy mindset. Classic opened with stargates instead of a huge gateway emphasis for a timing push of void rays, sentries, and stalkers. Sasquatch rushed mutalisks after a quick scout from zerglings, but Classic hid more void rays to trick the Zerg. Eventually, a great push of sentries/stalkers and a few void rays overwhelmed the lack of defense in Sasquatch's base.
Entombed Valley -- Game five Qxc v. Classic
Qxc began with early aggressive marine pressure, but Classic had stalker and a sentry for defense. Qxc continued with the aggression using a bio ball emphasis with stim/medivac. Classic transitioned into colossus play, while Qxc continued pouring pressure with medivac drops. Both macro'd up while trading blows, as each player worked off four bases. Classic engaged Qxc in his expansion with an army of colossus, sentries, stalkers, and psionic storm for the first winning fight. Classic finished off the game with reinforcements and killed off the rest of Qxc's chances.
Abyssal City -- Game six
TheStC v. Classic
Both players scouted and worked off two bases for the start. With defensive and conservative play, it was a game that was building toward mid-game. Classic pushed through with colossus/sentries/stalkers and caught TheStC's marines in a bad spot. With the momentum, Classic pushed through and used the map's chokeholds to cage TheStC in his own base. The hit on the expansion was too much and he overwhelmed the ace of coL.
With a rather dominating victory, Prime moved on in the bracket to face ROOT Gaming. It was a tough test to go up against the stacked lineup of Prime, with MKP starting the set, but compLexity did their best. The winner for this matchup had to be Classic with perfect Protoss micro. Once again, compLexity is not out of it, yet -- they have one more shot.
