Robopocalypse Author to Develop Amped

Robopocalypse author Daniel H. Wilson is now in final negotiations to develop his best-selling thriller Amped for Working Title Films.

The project was originally set up at Summit, but the property's rights were lost over the course of the studio's merger with Lionsgate.

Set in the near future, the story of Amped takes place in a world where nano tech-enhanced humans and ordinary humans are at war with one another.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot) is attached to helm the feature.

Meanwhile, Wilson's Robopocalypse is getting the big screen treatment from director Steven Spielberg, with a release date set for Summer 2014.

Those Idris Elba as James Bond Rumors are Back

The name's Elba, Idris Elba. Yes, the rumor mill is abuzz again that the Thor and Luther actor might succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond once the current 007 retires his license to kill. (Craig is currently slated to play the British secret agent through Bond 25.)

The rumors have made the rounds before, but this time they've been rekindled by none other than Skyfall actress Naomie Harris, who stars with Elba in the upcoming Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

In a chat with The Huffington Post, Harris revealed, "I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris [Elba] and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer] and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy."

Harris added that she wasn't even aware that Elba was a fellow Brit until she worked with as she only knew him from his role on The Wire.

While there might very well be a black James Bond in the future, Elba's age may work against him. Let's say Craig will be Bond for the next 4-6 years then that means Elba would be 46 years-old at the time he'd be cast as Bond. (Craig will be 50 at that point.)

This would tie Elba with Roger Moore, who was a boyish-looking 46 when he first played Bond. (Timothy Dalton was 43, Pierce Brosnan was 42, Sean Connery was 32, and George Lazenby was 30).

Elba was most recently seen onscreen in Prometheus and will soon be seen in Thor: The Dark World and Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi epic Pacific Rim.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Designer Leaves BioWare

Star Wars: The Old Republic lead designer Daniel Erickson has left BioWare. Erickson made the news official on Twitter, writing “As part of leaving BioWare I'm officially starting a twitter account for job hunt and design thoughts.”

Erickson previously sparked speculation about his departure after adding "actively looking for new opportunities" to his LinkedIn page last month. He follows recent BioWare departures including The Old Republic executive producer Rich Vogel, who left BioWare in July, as well as BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck, who retired from the company last month.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will transition to free-to-play later this year. Update 1.4, which adds a new high-level operation in addition to new armor went live last last week. For a full list of all the changes, see our Star Wars: The Old Republic wiki guide.

IGN wishes Erickson the best of luck in whatever he moves onto next.

Daniel Radcliffe May Star in Frankenstein

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe may play the monster in Sherlock director Paul McGuigan's revisionist Frankenstein movie.

TheWrap claims Radcliffe is interested in playing the role of "Hunchback" in the Fox-based project scripted by Chronicle's Max Landis. Hunchback? No, this film apparently isn't some kind of a Mary Shelley/Victor Hugo mashup.

The site says this version of Frankenstein "puts a sci-fi take on this classic story about a creature produced through a scientific experiment. Hunchback is described as pathologically dirty and dressed in old clowns clothing."

"Serious talks" with potential actors will begin once the script is finalized.

Meet the New Thunderbolts

Last week, Marvel showed off this teaser:

Now, they've revealed over at Newsarama that writer Daniel Way and artist Steve Dillon will be relaunching Thunderbolts for Marvel NOW! with quite an impressive new line-up. The team will be led by Red Hulk ("Thunderbolt" Ross!) and have membership by Elektra, Venom, Deadpool, and Frank Castle himself, the Punisher. I've never considered Frank much of a team player, but perhaps the outcome of Punisher: War Zone will be leaving him in a different place.

In any case, the book's editor, Jordan White, told Newsarama, "T-Bolts has gone through quite a few shifts over the years, some more radical than others. This one is going to be a pretty big change in that none of the characters or plotlines from the previous series are carrying over. It's a new take, but one that is grounded in that original idea that has always been woven into the fabric of the series, the hero/villain dichotomy, and characters bridging the gap between them. If you look at our roster, every one of our characters is a character who started out as a villain in their first appearances but who has, over the years, made the shift to hero... or at least antihero."

Now that one of the books behind the latest teasers has been revealed, I would expect to hear about the rest very soon. I should note that it's unclear whether or not this will have any effect on Jeff Parker's Dark Avengers series, which was renamed from Thunderbolts earlier this year.

Jerry Lawler Collapses Live on WWE RAW

The first thing I'll say is that what happened live tonight on RAW was not a part of a WWE storyline...

During a match involving Daniel Bryan and Kane vs. The Prime Time Players, and shortly following his own match against CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler, 62 year-old commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler became short of breath and collapsed at the announce table, falling to the floor. During this time, the cameras did not show what was happening, but viewers at home could see the crowd watching off to the side as a medical team came down to attend to Lawler.

Michael Cole, Lawler's co-commentator, understandably shaken, continued to call the match on his own while Lawler was placed on a stretcher and taken backstage. Twitter erupted, with everyone wondering what had happened to Lawler. The rest of the night was a surreal experience as Cole came back on intermittently to give the viewers health updates throughout the night. After receiving CPR backstage, Lawler was taken to a local Montreal medical facility where he was placed in an isolated ER and given oxygen through a tube. The final update, before RAW went off the air, was that Lawler was now breathing on his own and responsive to light. He is to undergo a CT scan on his head and chest. The doctors have listed him in "stable" condition.

The final hour of RAW's three-hour broadcast from Montreal went commentary-free as a tribute to Lawler.

Get well, Jerry.

Daniel Craig to Play James Bond "At Least Five Times"

Daniel Craig will play James Bond “at least five times,” and if studio executives have their way, he will be the longest-serving actor in the role.

Roger Moore currently holds the record, having played 007 seven times in official Bond flicks.

MI6 broke the news when announcing that Sony Pictures has reached a new co-financing deal with MGM to continue making Bond movies.

The studio apparently hopes to start making Bond flicks on a two-year cycle, meaning that Bond 24 could hit in 2014.

The next Bond film – Skyfall – hits UK screens on October 26 before reaching the rest of the world in November.

Chris Tilly is the Entertainment Editor for IGN and is hoping to replace Craig as Bond. His idle chit-chat can be found on both Twitter and MyIGN.

Detective Comics Annual #1 Review

Prior to the New 52, much of Tony Daniel's Batman work was centered around establishing a new version of Black Mask, a villain who turned out to be none other than Dr. Jeremiah Arkham. Recently, Daniel has returned to Black Mask in his Detective Comics run, though now Roman Sionis is back under the mask and Arkham is on the right side of the law again. Detective Comics Annual #1 offers Daniel a chance to explore the current status quo of these characters outside the confines of the main series. Though it definitely has its rough patches, this annual isn't a bad way for Daniel to end his writing stint on the series.

This is one of those issues where Batman is basically a glorified guest star. But the benefit to having such a large, diverse, and downright awesome rogues gallery is that it's okay to relegate Batman to the background now and then. The majority of Daniel's attention is focused on Sionis. In many ways the villain is reverting to a more old-school version of himself, between the hypnotic powers and the return of the False Face Society. I miss the more sadistic take on the character seen in the days of Judd Winick's Batman run and the War Games crossover, but this version has its merits as well.

Black Mask may be the star, but he's hardly the only familiar Bat villain to make an appearance. Whether explicitly mandated or not, it's seemed that most of the New 52 books have focused on introducing new villains in their first year rather than relying on old favorites. It's a nice change to see characters like Clayface and Tweedledum and Tweedledee about and there's another mystery villain who Daniel puts to great use as a foil to Black Mask. In general, the issue makes effectvie use of the annual format, building on past plot points but not relying so much on continuity that newcomers cant enjoy the story.

There are some fairly significant problems with the script, unfortunately. The book becomes unintentionally silly at times despite the fairly grim tone. Part of this is because Daniel's dialogue doesn't always function as intended. Characters who are meant to come across as tough and scary instead trip over awkward lines. This is a problem that has plagued Daniel's Batman work to one degree or another from the beginning. The final showdown is also unnecessarily silly. I was reminded of Cartman's psychic showdown from the South Park episode "The Real Psychic Detectives."

Romano Molenaar and Pere Perez divide up the art duties on this issue. Molenaar's work resembles a more loose, frenetic version of Daniel's, and fits the general aesthetic of the series pretty well. It does become a bit too loose and lacking in detail at times. Perez's work is a little more straightforward and plain but also more detail oriented. It's not a visually spectacular issue by any means, but both artist contribute some memorable action scenes.

Detective Comics Annual #1 does little to push any of the characters involved forward or make changes to the Bat universe, but it does at least solidify Black Mask and a handful of other villains' places in the New 52. Hopefully Detective Comics can find a stronger sense of identity and purpose as the creative team shifts in the coming months.

First Official Photo of Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln

We've seen some set photos of him before, but now the first official photo of Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis as President Abraham Lincoln has been released.

Entertainment Weekly debuted the image and also chatted with Lincoln director Steven Spielberg about the 16th U.S. President. “Lincoln had a very, very complicated – and at the same time, extremely clear — inner life,” said Spielberg. “He thought things out. He talked things out. He argued both sides of every issue. And he was very careful in making any decision. As a matter of fact, his opponents and his enemies criticized him often for being impossibly slow to a decision.”

The director added, "Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition.”

Lincoln opens in limited release November 9 before opening wide  November 16.

Bond Actors Reprising Roles in 007 Legends

Activision has announced that several original Bond voice actors will reprise their roles in upcoming Bond game 007 Legends. Daniel Craig will once again provide his voice and likeness as James Bond, and he’ll be joined by Richard Kiel reprising his role as Jaws from Moonraker and Michael Lonsdale once again playing Hugo Drax.

In addition, Naomie Harris and Rory Kinnear will voice their characters from upcoming Bond film Skyfall, with Harris playing Eve and Kinnear playing MI6 chief of staff Bill Tanner. Beyond the game’s voice cast, Bruce Feirstein -- writer of The World Is Not Enough, Tomorrow Never Dies and GoldenEye -- wrote 007 Legends’ script, while composer David Arnold (Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies) contributed to the soundtrack.

007 Legends tells the story of six different Bond films, letting you play through six missions that cover five classic films as well as the upcoming Skyfall. Activision has confirmed two of the classic Bond films included so far: Moonraker and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

007 Legends will launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, around the same time that Skyfall will hit theaters. For an extended look at the 23rd Bond film, check out our Skyfall set visit from earlier this year.
