GameStick to Ship with Shadowgun, Other Indie Titles

After making a big splash in January at CES, PlayJam's portable Android console GameStick has another trick up its sleeve at GDC -- a full-blown demonstration that shows off the many games already signed on to the console, including mobile developer MadFinger's cover-based shooter Shadowgun. “GameStick offers a direct route to TV for our games,” Madfinger CEO Marek Rabas told IGN. “The format lends itself perfectly to carrying many of our hit mobile titles, marrying portability with truly big screen entertainment."

In addition to featuring Shadowgun, PlayJam says that it has built partnerships with hundreds of developers to feature games in the console's proprietary store -- which comes complete with an ecommerce platform. Ostensibly many of the launch games -- including R-Type and Shaqdown -- are mobile games finally making their debut on the TV. But PlayJam has also announced a partnership with Pivos to bring their Android-powered entertainment solution XBMC to GameStick, so owners will be able to use their console for streaming services.

Lucky GDC-goers will be able to test-play the GameStick at PlayJam's booth, but those sold on the console can snap it up for $79 on the company's website, with a June ship date.
