Morning Glories #25 Review

Finally! Answers! Sweet, sweet answers! In this issue, Ike literally holds someone at gunpoint and insists on getting answers or he’ll do something crazy -- a feeling any reader of this series can identify with. And he gets answers! Well, some. But what we do learn makes a lot of sense. Well, sort of. Not at all, really. But hey -- answers are answers! Right? RIGHT?!

It’s hard to believe you can get just under 50 pages -- the same as two and a half copies of Marvel’s Avengers -- for a mere $3.99. Each page is full of Joe Eisma’s impressive art that does more than its fair share of the storytelling. He’s tasked with providing countless flashbacks with little to no narration to help make sense of them; he has only the strength of his ability to convey what is key to each image. Given this story’s convoluted history, it’s a mighty feat that he does just that to great effect.

Still, so much goes down in this issue that sheds new light on the mysteries of Morning Glories Academy that it will send you diving into your longbox to re-read this series from the start. The answers that come do not result in some type of M. Night Shyamalan/Jonathan Hickman mind-shattering realization, but rather a general understanding of a few larger concepts about the “school.” Visibility has increased, but we’re still shrouded in fog.

Writer Nick Spencer seems well aware of what readers want to know and puts us in Ike’s shoes, albeit not without a warning of the price that comes with getting answers: first, your head might bleed from all outlets, and second, they lead to more questions.
