App Store Update: August 29

We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention. Game Debuts

Terraria – ($4.99)

Described in our review as a game that looks and plays like Minecraft would have had it been released in the SNES era, Terraria is a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 hit that has largely broken free of comparisons to Notch's mega-hit now that it's become a major hit itself. Now, it's available for iOS devices – its first time going portable. Time for another look, mining fans?

Junk Jack X – ($4.99)

Coming into the App Store hot on Terraria's heels is Junk Jack X, a new version of the iOS game that, before today, was what most people referred to as, well, the App Store's take on Terraria. No coincidence in the timing of this release, people – Junk Jack wants you to remember that he was doing iOS side-scrolling mining before it was cool.

Joining Hands 2 – ($0.99)

We featured the original Joining Hands as a freebie earlier this week, so any of you who took our recommendation and tried it out might be ready to spring for this new sequel now.

Link The Slug – ($0.99)

An experimental brood of brain slugs is multiplying out of control, and it's up to you to match them by color to zap them into non-existence.

Age of Thrones – ($1.99)

You know, Game of Thrones would be better with orcs. They've got zombies and dragons in there, sure, but orcs! Orcs would be cool. And here's the proof of concept, a new tower defense design with liberal use of the honorific, "Your Grace."

Freebies!

Mysteryville 2: Hidden Object Crime Investigation – (Free)

This one's subtitle does a pretty good job of explaining what you get. Use your eyes to find the clues!

Cut the Rope – (Free)

It's been an App Store staple for years, but Cut the Rope has never gone free before today! If you've somehow never grabbed Om Nom's puzzle-packed, candy-consuming adventure, download it immediately:

Cut the Rope HD – (Free)

The iPad edition is also available for no cost for the first time. Grab it too!

Price Drops

Cut the Rope: Time Travel – ($1.99)

Meanwhile, the most recent sequel in the on-going Cut the Rope series has also had one dollar knocked off its asking price.

Badland – ($1.99)

The team at Frogmind is keeping this stunning platformer accessible through regular sales, and today's the latest one – Badland is half-off from its normal $3.99.

Updates

Time Surfer – (Freemium)

Time Surfer is the endless runner that gives you instant do-overs when you inevitably run your hero into a wall – it allows you to immediately rewind time a few seconds and correct your mistake. Its new Version 1.3.0 update has now gone live, adding the new "Kepler Run" mode that challenges you to slingshot yourself through a course littered with black holes.

That’s it for today! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
