Oscar winner Charlize Theron's Denver & Delilah Films is partnering with Annapurna Pictures and CJ Entertainment to produce William Monahan's adaptation of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, based on the 2005 South Korean movie from Park Chan-wook.
According to Variety, Theron will star as a "woman who, for reasons of her own, completes a prison term for a murder she did not commit, re-emerging to punish the killer and avenge the dead."
"This will be very American -- and very unexpected," Monahan, who won an Oscar for adapting The Departed, said. "Park is a genius; it's the Everest of adaptations, and I've got blood in my teeth to do it."
Monahan's recent written works include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and The Gambler.
