StarCraft II at IPL5 Day 1 Preview

The start of IPL5 is only hours away, and there’s a lot of action to look forward to already. We’ve broken down the competition and have picked out some matches to watch and players to follow over the course of day one.

Day One Matches To Watch

HwangSin vs. HuK

Ever since HuK’s slump earlier this year, his fans have been rooting for his comeback. The same can be said for HwangSin, who made it to the grand finals of the NASL Season 2 and recently placed 7th/8th at MLG Dallas 2012. Whoever wins this match will have a long road ahead of them, but both players have their fans behind them.

Genius vs. Golden

It’s a classic old-school veteran versus up-and-comer battle with this round one match up. Genius relies on solid macro and mechanics, whereas Golden is more unconventional – but this ZvZ is anyone’s game.

HerO vs. Stephano

You don’t want to miss this potential Winners Round 2 match, which is something expected from a grand final. Stephano is the IPL3 champion, the foreign hope, and one of the best Zergs in the business. HerO is the repeat DreamHack Winter champion, and he made it look easy. This intense match will surely be the highlight of day one. Players To Follow

Sea

IPL5 will be Sea’s first major tournament appearance since taking on the Team Liquid banner. Many are interested in whether or not he will show strong results as he did in Brood War. Sea’s first match is against Bboong, and if he is successful, he will meet Fight Club King HyuN in Winners Round 2.

Scarlett

Scarlett astonished players and fans alike at the last IPL when she took out some of the best Korean and foreign players to make an incredible run through the open bracket. Since then, Scarlett has achieved a lot of success in North America, so we’re looking forward to seeing if she will replicate such results. Scarlett’s first match is against Drewbie.

Life

Life is…well, Life. He is the current GSL Code S Champion, the 2012 MLG Fall Champion, and quite frankly, one of the best StarCraft II players in the world right now. Life will show some incredible matches this weekend with the first being against Perfect. If he wins, he will face the winner of Hwangsin vs. HuK.
