Three former Angry Birds developers have launched Boomlagoon, a new Finnish game studio. The studio was co-founded in April by Antti Stén, Tuomas Erikoinen and Ilkka Halila but saw its official launch today, aiming to launch its first game “soon.”
Stén built the cloud architecture for Angry Birds developer Rovio, while Halila was Rovio’s lead programmer and Erikoinen is "the man behind the Angry Birds visuals.” In a statement, Boomlagoon said its founding members have “over 20 years of game development and startup experience together.”
The studio is funded by investor Jari Ovaskainen, who will sit on the board, as well as the London Venture Partners group. LVP’s David Gardner will also sit on the board. “Boomlagoon has the skills, knowledge and industry experience required to develop world class games,” Ovaskainen said. “They are on track for building a massive business franchise with a compelling pipeline of upcoming titles.”
“The Boomlagoon guys have a sense of style and an effortless understanding of what is fun in a game,” Gardner added. “When I first met with the team in Finland I knew they were onto something great, and immediately wanted to help them realise their creative dreams.”
Boomlagoon’s headquarters reside in Helsinki, Finland. The studio has also launched its official site.
