Ten years ago, on November 18, 2012, Metroid Prime was released in North America on GameCube. Covering Nintendo's masterpiece for IGN in 2002 were Peer Schneider, and original reviewer Fran Mirabella. These IGN Nintendo team vets join the regular crew of Samuel Claiborn, Audrey Drake and Richard George to play Metroid Prime and discuss the past, present and future of the Metroid series.
In researching this special episode we used a few resources we thought you'd be interested in checking out:
- Matt Casamassina's massive feature on Retro Studios, "A Space Bounty Hunter in Texas"
- A roundtable discussion of Metroid Prime with Retro Studios and Shigeru Miyamoto
- A 2011 GDC panel and Q&A with Retro Studios
Finally, to celebrate Metroid Prime's tenth anniversary in style, we converted Fran's original Metroid Prime review into our new reviews format.
Why didn't Metroid Prime get a 10? Read Fran Mirabella's review.
And as a final bonus, here's Peer's original mock-up of what a first-person Metroid could look like, circa 2001. You can hear all about Peer's clairvoyant Photoshopping powers in this week's episode.
Nintendo Video Chat comes in two forms, just like Samus (blonde hair and green hair). We've made NVC available as a video on IGN and YouTube and as an audio track which you can download below. Please pardon both video (some interference) and audio (recording levels) issues this week: We're aware of the problems and we are working on solutions.
