App Store Update: October 24

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Game Debuts

Shardlands – ($1.99)

We'll kick off our Wednesday by pointing you towards Shardlands, a beautifully rendered 3D action adventure puzzler from Breach Entertainment. Take a look at its trailer, then consider treating yourself to its atmospheric spectacle for just two bucks:

About Love, Hate and the other ones – ($0.99)

For those who prefer their puzzlers to stay within the bounds of two dimensions, check out the uniquely named "About Love, Hate and the other ones." Love and Hate are the names of your two main characters, a pair of black blobs you'll have to help guide through 60 different mazes.

Price Drops

Polara – ($0.99)

Polara fuses together auto-running with polarity switching in the tradition of bullet-hell classic Ikaruga, and after a week up at the $2.99 level it's now drop back down to under a buck.

AstroWings – (Free)

Speaking of bullet-hell shooters, here's one for free. Give it a look:

Blosics – (Free)

Angry Birds addicts should waste no time taking advantage of this free promotion, as the physics-based structure destruction featured in Blosics is only a few pigs away from being part of that same series.

Greedy Bankers vs. The World – (Free)

iPad owners looking for a new single-screen multiplayer design should check out Greedy Bankers vs. The World, a free puzzler that lets you take on a friend head-to-head – and reach over to their side of the screen to mess with them, too.

Brainsss – (Free)

And it wouldn't be a true App Store Update without at least one zombie game tossed into the mix, so take the zombie-directing Brainsss as a final freebie today.

Updates

Angry Birds Seasons – ($0.99)

Version 3.0.0 brings Angry Birds Seasons full-circle, back to the first holiday the game celebrated when it debuted two years ago – Halloween. The new "Haunted Hogs" package of level takes our favorite flying birds indoors, into a haunted house, where more eggs wait to be rescued from more foul, kidnapping swine.

That's all for today! If you haven't already, consider subscribing to the App Store Update via email. It's extra convenient!
