In their second match of the qualifiers and final match of Group B, Najin Sword once again faced off against LG Incredible Miracle. In the previous match Najin Sword handily defeated them, so LG-IM was looking for redemption and a chance at a spot in the IPL5 championships. The winner of this match would be sent to the IPL5 Korea Qualifiers Round of 4. Here's how the picks and bans went down:
Incredible Miracle
Bans: Shen, Sona, Maokai
Picks:
- Lee Sin (Ring Troll)
- Leona (Livy)
- Graves (Paragon)
- Zyra (MidKing)
- Irelia (a Lilac)
Najin Sword
Bans: Alistar, Ezreal, Katarina
Picks:
- Orianna (Ssong)
- Jayce (Maknoon)
- Corki (Pray)
- Skarner (Watch)
- Blitzcrank (Cain)
LG-IM went with a very standard lock down composition that would be aimed at getting directly into Corki and Orianna's faces to shut them down. With their squad, Leona and Irelia both have the tools to get directly at the enemy carries, Lee Sin and Zyra can help peel off of Graves. The only questionable decision was to have MidKing play Zyra as the AP carry, which we haven't seen in awhile due to nerfs.
NJSW couldn't have made a better poke comp for themselves. The Orianna, Jayce, and Corki poke is a devastating combination in both attacking and defending bases. If you stir in Blitzcrank grabs and Skarner impales it makes that team much more terrifying.
LG-IM would have to make moves in the early game to make sure their poke comp wouldn't become a factor. This meant ganking early and often with their roaming stun and root squad. NJSW simply needed to make sure they got farmed enough so they can execute their mid game tower pushes and not get caught by stuns.
In the early game it was really Skarner to make his mark instead of Lee Sin, even though Lee Sin is known to be a killer early game ganker. Skarner was able to help Maknoon's Jayce out by catching Irelia out of position and getting the gank off on her. Meanwhile in the bottom lane the Corki/Blitz combo was zoning Graves/Leona hard, a skirmish broke out and both AD carries ended up going down. The score was 2-1 at the 6-minute mark.
Skarner continued to harass Irelia in the top lane, getting the impale off on her and killing her yet again with the help of Jayce. The early game really was not going LG-IM's way at this point. In the bottom lane another fight broke out when Cain's Blitzcrank got a grab off on Graves, allowing the Corki burst to net him the kill. Up in the top lane Maknoon had become strong enough from earlier ganks to get a 1v1 kill on Irelia, making the score 5-1 at the 11-minute mark.
13 minutes in, Irelia was 0-4 and unsuccessful at shutting down Maknoon's Jayce, which was a very big deal. NJSW heavily out CS'd LG-IM in the early game to perfectly set up their mid game pushes. After a roaming Blitzcrank grab/gank on Lee Sin, NJSW was able to push LG-IM's tier 1 mid tower, opening up the map. The score was 8-2 at the 16-minute mark and NJSW was enjoying a 7k gold lead.
LG-IM did their best to defend their towers in a tough situation, and Irelia got a 1v1 kill on an already low Jayce in the top lane to save some face. LG-IM made a stand at the dragon where lots of ults were missed and dodged. LG-IM eventually got the dragon but lost the team fight afterward netting NJSW a 4 for 2 exchange.
The poke execution began taking its toll on LG-IM as Orianna ults, Jayce and Corki poke started to put a hurt on their defense. At one point Lee Sin had to blue pill away after taking too much damage from Orianna. This lead to the mid tier 2 tower going down. While defending, Ssong's Orianna got a perfect ult off allowing Maknoon to get a few dunks, leading to an ace.
The Key Fight: There was no stopping Maknoon at this point. He was equipped with dual Bloodthirster's and his poke damage was immense. While LG-IM was trying to defend their top inhibitor tower, NJSW poked them down to the point where they could just dive. Once they were low enough, Orianna threw her ball into the mix and got the perfect ult off totally obliterating LG-IM for the ace, and the 24-7 win.
The MVP: The MVP of the game has to be Maknoon's Jayce, although Ssong gets a close second with his perfect ults. Jayce's double Bloodthirster poke was a beautiful thing to watch, and he was able to get to that point by dismantling a Lilac's Irelia.
This meant that Najin Sword would head to the Round of 4, joining Azubu Frost and the top 2 from Group A that has yet to be decided.
