Wanted 2 is Still a Go

We haven't really heard anything substantial from the Wanted 2 camp in well over a year. The last bit of significant news detailed that Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, who penned the original 2008 film, were still working on the sequel for Universal.

Recently, Haas provided an update on the pic, assuring fans that the project is still moving forward, and, thus far, on their own creative terms. "We got that call that you always love as a screenwriter. 'Can you guys please come back?' We loved the world. That experience was great," Haas told Hollywood.com. "We said, 'Well here's what we want to do with the sequel.' And [Universal] said, 'Okay.'"

Of course, the big question mark was Angelina Jolie's character Fox, who (SPOILER!) took a bullet to the head at the end of the first film. After going back and forth with the studio, it now sounds like Fox has been rubbed out for good. Continued Haas, "Everyone's like, 'Oh, are you going to bring back Fox?' I said, 'Did you see the bullet go into her head?' And they say, 'Oh, she can take one of those milk baths!' We never wanted to do that movie."

So with no Jolie, what's the hook? "The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley (James McAvoy) is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie," Haas said. "She's got a sh***y life. He's sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world."
