ShootMania has eSports in Mind

ShootMania, the newest addition to the IGN Pro League line-up, was designed with eSports in mind! Here are just some of the things that the Ubisoft and Nadeo have implemented into the game to create a rich experience for both competitive players and spectators.

  • Simple controls and a limited number of guns that are easy to understand. Essentially, movement is quick but still straight-forward. Guns are limited at the moment to rockets, lasers, and the nucleus that all have properties unique to them, and that do not change across different game modes.
  • Customizability. Map tiles can include sponsor, league, or even team logos, as well as allowing teams to make their own variations of popular competitive maps and modes.
  • Pictures for avatars and on skins. Right now, a player on a professional team can put their team logo as an icon that always appears by their name, as well as upload a skin with their team logo on the character itself, acting as an emblem or coat of arms.
  • Various spectator modes. Spectators can follow an individual player's first-person view and easily swap between them with the number keys, or pull out to a full map overview to get a better look at where each player is actually positioned.
  • Replay editor. Replays can be saved of any map, game, or match, and the in-game editor is very substantial. Videos including highlight reels or frag videos can be done without the use of third-party editing programs.
  • Ability to change game mode specifics or even add entirely new game modes. If someone wants to hold a tournament with a special mod or variation of an existing game mode, it is very easy to do so. If the current competitive mode becomes stale or people just want to try different things, entire game modes can be constructed from scratch to try something new.

In addition to all of these implementations, ShootMania is a return to pure first-person shooter enjoyment. Every game is a level playing field from start to finish. There are no bonuses for playing 100 or 1,000 games, no experience grind to unlock new guns, and definitely no killstreaks. All a player has when entering a game is the ability to shoot, an understanding of the game's movement, and knowledge of the current map to help them achieve victory.

In the above video, you'll see a detailed explanation of how you or anyone else can claim a ShootMania 30-day beta key and begin playing the current official competitive mode: Elite. Thousands of beta keys are available, so feel free to check out the game and share with friends to form your own Elite team! When ShootMania's beta ends and the full version is released, Royal and Elite modes will be entirely open to all. No payment will be necessary to jump in and begin playing these modes immediately. This opens the field of competition to literally everyone with the means to install the game, and can make for some great experiences for everyone.
